she expected the world but it flew away from her reach so she ran away in her sleep

"Ok...I have the beef, the cake ingredients, strawberries and whipped cream...Perhaps I could make takoyaki to go with it?"
Yunneth wondered to herself. She had not yet started cooking, knowing that her new friend would want to help her cook as well. She had a idea to make hamburger steak as well as Strawberry shortcake for dessert. She wondered if a appetizer or a side dish should be made but she did not want to make too much. Plus she began wondering if a salad would be better. The raven sighed as she thought about it and decided to make sure everything was neat for her guests arrival. The navy blue couch was pristine and the matching pillows were properly in their place. The bathroom was clean and her room was cleaned up. She did not want to look like a slob so she did her best to present her home and herself well. She did not always believe that looks are everything but she did want to make her guest at home. "Ok...I believe everything has been properly cleaned and nothing else needs taken care of. Now I just have to wait."
Heading over to Yunneth's place and walking through town, Raven didn't look at the directions but instead, currently looking at herself, hoping she didn't overdo the clothing. She dressed casually to her liking; keeping the leggings and her boots, of course along with shorts over the leggings. She also wore a red tank top, a leather jacket and her spiked collar. It would be under the assumption that she was more of the rocker girl type though she didn't exactly act so punk-like or anything like that. She mostly liked the style and all.
Though she was self-conscious about her appearance, she was also excited. She was invited to be at someone's house and that's quite a start of socializing for her. They were going to eat and enjoy each other's company, she hoped to be very acquainted with Yunneth. If things turn out well, she at least would have somebody to have conversations with and be around throughout the school year.
When she reached to the destination, following every direction, Raven took a deep breath. She adjusted her clothing a bit and pulled her bangs back behind her ears, heading to the door.
("You'll do just fine, Raven. Just be yourself.") She thought to herself and then lifted her right hand, lightly knocking on the door, waiting for an answer and also hoping that Yunneth was home.
Just has Yunneth finished double checking to make sure the apartment was in good shape, she heard a knock at her door. A smile was now on the girls face as she knew that had to be her friend. It had to be! Once she got up, she opened the door. It seems she was right. Her new friend was at the door. With a pleasant smile, Yunneth opened her door wide, allowing her friend inside.
"Ah! it is good to see you! Come in! Leave your shoes on the mat here and make yourself at home"
She pointed to the green mat next to the door. Once the door was closed, Yunneth walked into the kitchen and began to take out a few boxes of tea.
"Would you like any tea? I have chamomile, rose, and earl grey."
She asked as she got the tea pot out and some cups. Even if her friend did not want any, she did want some herself. She was sure she would be too focused on cooking that she would forget to drink anything.Perhaps she could break out some sweets? They were not fresh but she had some boxed cookies...perhaps she would like some.
A smile drew on Raven’s face and she walked in, feeling welcomed into Yunneth's home. As was told, she took off her boots and left them on the mat. She began to observe the place and found it quite comforting. more comforting than her own home,
("If there are more places like this, then this is exactly the kind of place I would rather be.") Raven thought. It looks simple and very comfortable to live in, unlike her home. Raven's home was rather gloomy, and has a complete dark atmosphere to it, at least to her of course. She never lets anyone come near it.
Raven took a seat on the couch, sitting up straight but not too straight, making just a slight slouch by tilting forward only a notch and had her hands folded on her lap. When asked for some tea, Raven’s eyes were drawn to Yunneth and she smiled, breaking her focus on the area,
"Oh! Um...chamomile would be very nice, thank you." She answered, politely. "Are there cookies by any chance, if I may ask? I like having tea with a nice snack most of the time but it's very much okay if there isn't any." She still glanced around Yunneth's place, she would love having to live somewhere else, a place like this. She has the money but for some reason, she can't seem to leave her cursed place, something held her back and she couldn't figure out the reason.
"This is a nice place you live in, Yunneth-san. It's very comforting and peaceful, in my opinion." Raven complimented. "How long have you live here?"
The raven answered as she put away the rose and Earl Grey teas. As she began to get the tea pot ready, she heard the question regarding cookies.
"It's funny that you mention that. I was just thinking the same thing. Yes, I have some chocolate chip and pinwheel cookies though they are store bought. I hope that is ok. I will bring them out when the tea is ready unless you want them now."
When given the complement about her apartment, Yunneth giggled as she walked to the door way to the kitchen and leaned on the wall. She did not want to stay to far from the tea.
"Thank you very much. Honestly, I did not have to work hard in getting the apartment. Though I make up for it in keeping up with it. It has it's days but it is a good home for now."
When asked for how long she has lived here, she had to think about it for a moment.
"Um...not long. I am still new to town and the school you see. I think I have lived here for at least two weeks? I could be wrong."
This was the first time the girl had to think about it. Yunneth has been living on her own for awhile now. It was a strange feeling. She has made it this far on her own with out her parents or the whole of her family. So far so good, right? But a couple of weeks isn't enough to prove her point to them. And she knew it. But for now that was not her concern. She wanted to enjoy the company of her friend. She would think about that possible bridge to cross when she had the time.
Of all things right now, tea sounds pretty good. Raven haven't had tea in quite some time and whenever she had tea, she didn't make it properly; it was just microwaving the hot water, add a tea bag to it and it's done. Although, there were times where she made her tea properly, lately now everything was more microwaved. This was mostly due to the fact of future technology.
When told that the cookies were store bought, Raven didn't mind a single bit of that,
"It's perfectly fine, cookies are still cookies. I would like some chocolate chip cookies and you can serve them with the tea. I bet you if you were to give them to me before the tea, I'd eat them immediately." she laughed. There’s no way she’s ever going to deny the offer of sweets. Raven loves sweets, they were a bliss every time she had a dessert, but not as much as her favorite dessert of all: white chocolate cheesecake. If she was given that, Raven would be in heaven. But of course, she wasn't going to ask for that. She had already asked enough and besides, Yunneth invited her to spend some time with each other, keeping themselves in good company. That alone is quite an offering to accept and her main objective is to be good friends with Yunneth.
After Yunneth answered her question of her residence, a face of surprise formed on Raven’s face; she managed to get her place set up comfortably in two weeks! She became impressed,
"Well, it's a nice place and I hope you like this town so far." now that she brought that up, the girl's name was rather different comparing to most people who live here in Kamina,
"Yunneth Sinclaire, that’s very different than most names I have heard. Are you of a different ethnicity?" she asked with curiosity.
"You are correct. I am actually half White. I'm British if I must be specific. I have mostly lead a more European life style than Asian but I have managed to live in my mothers homeland for the last few years. And like people from the west, I have a middle name though it would work better in this country but..."Yunneth" has always been the name used. Though even that name is peculiar in itself. Let's just say that my father was rather controlling when it came to names..."
Just thinking about it couldn't help but make Yunneth think about her father. Yes...he was always controlling. And still is to this day. She only knew some of her mother's culture but in retrospect she grew up mostly as a British girl than a Japanese one. It was strange. Her father had them practice his traditions mainly. Her mother never did seem happy but she was never a vocal woman. She is always quiet and always has a cold disposition. In truth she knew nothing of her mother. She was always so silent...it was almost maddening. And her cold brown eyes always stopped Yunneth in her tracks. Always a look of annoyance or disapproval. Such a disposition made it hard for the girl to get any familiarity with the woman. She is like a cactus flower. Pretty to look at but no one can get close to her. After a moment, Yunneth brushed her thoughts away. This was not the time to reflect on her parents. But sometimes she couldn't help it when that subject was brought up. With a light chuckle, she sighed.
"I get that question a lot. But I don't mind. I guess when you are biracial, people are just curious. Anyway...let's talk about something else. Like you. Have you lived in this town long or are you new to the area as well? You do not have to answer if you don't want to."
As she suspected, Yunneth was of different decent. Raven was very open-minded on a lot of things though, so stuff like this would always catch her interest.
Yunneth said something about her father being rather controlling, it caught Raven's attention immediately. She felt sympathy towards her new friend and couldn't imagine a controlling parent, or maybe she could but she just didn't want to remember it, herself. However, when Yunneth changed the subject immediately, Raven felt the urge to know more, but since it might be a little too overwhelming for Yunneth to explain about it, she made the decision to not bring it up any further for her sake.
Suddenly, when Yunneth asked her about how long she has resided here, there was only a sound of silence, for a moment. Raven has been around for a long time, centuries actually and that wasn't an exaggeration. She has been living in Kamina her whole life, watching it expand and progress. She has her plans of leaving, but of course there are obvious things holding her back. Raven obviously has a secret that she intends to hide for a long time and hopefully for all eternity. It gave her relief that Yunneth added about her not having to answer immediately but she, of course tried to answer truthfully by not exactly telling the truth,
"I've been here my whole life, never moved. So you can say I'm sort of a veteran in this town." she answered. She wasn't exactly wrong, "Since you're a new person around, perhaps we can plan for days of going around town some time. I can always show you around about what it's like." Raven thought she might as well offer the idea, plus it'd be a perfect excuse for her to be away from her home at least.
"That would be splendid! I know where all the important places are as well as other points of interest. Having someone who knows the town better would be nice."
That and she would like to go out in town with a friend. Just the thought of going out with a friend for once made the girl happy. What would they be able to do? Perhaps go to a sweet shop or maybe go clothes shopping? Or maybe find a neat little store she has not found yet? That would be nice to find.
"We will have to find a day to do this. Hopefully a day I am off work.
Soon the raven went back into the kitchen and began to finish preparing for the tea. Once the chamomile was finished, Yunneth poured the tea into the cups, made a plate of cookies and began to carry everything into the living room. Though it required a few trips, she finally managed to get everything into the room with out any incident.
Perfect, having to invite Yunneth to go around town and her accepting it, made socializing for Raven seem almost easy. Then again, it could be because Yunneth seems so nice and open on a lot of things; something that Raven likes to see in people.
"Great, whenever you're off from work, just let me know and we'll have a little adventure together." she smiled. Of course, it's obviously another reason to be away from her own damned home.
"Who knows you might meet someone new on the way, or at least we will. I honestly don't really talk to many people in Kamina." She turned her face away from Yunneth, glancing down for a second and lifting her head back up once again, "I'm just very familiar with the town."
When Yunneth brought in the tea, a smile drew on Raven’s face,
"Thank you, Yunneth-san." she had her head bow by a tiny bit, grabbing the cup and putting it near her lips. She blew on the beverage so it wouldn't be too hot on her tongue and slowly took a sip of the chamomile tea, letting the flavor caress her tongue,
"Mmm, my oh my, it's delicious." she commented, "You're quite excellent on your tea." she put the cup down and grabbed a cookie off the plate, taking a bite out of it. Tasting the sweet, sugary, goodness of the cookie was almost bliss for Raven. It's been quite some time since she really ate any sweets. Yunneth was doing so much for her to make this a nice time for each other, she had to repair her somehow. So far it was just her serving Raven.
"I have to give you something in return Yunneth-san. My goodness, I feel like I'm taking advantage out of this." Raven began rubbing the back of her head, her cheeks tinging with pink and feeling a little embarrassed about herself. Well they did plan this event to cook meals for each other so that could be a start,
"If anything, let me cook for you first, whatever you like I'll make it." She was willing to do anything.
Knowing that the two would be going out in town sometime made the raven ecstatic. She does not have many friends so being able to go out and see the town with a friend made things easier and perhaps even funner than being alone. It felt like a excellent change of pace.
"Please, you do not need to be formal with me. Yunneth or Yunneth-chan is just fine!"
She smiled happily before sitting down and drinking from her own cup. Her brows furrowed as she removed the tea from her lips. By her facial expressions it was obvious she was not comfortable.
"Yowch...I burned my tongue."
She mumbled to herself, small tears already forming in the corners of her eyes. Finally she was ready to respond to Raven.
"You don't owe me anything. I was the one who offered you to come over. I owe it to you to be a good hostess. At least that is what I was taught."
She said plainly but with a kind tone. She placed a cookie in her mouth and swallowed before speaking once more.
"However, if you want to cook I won't stop you. So I will take you up on that offer. Do you by chance know how to make calamari? I am actually weak when it comes to that dish...maybe make it into a fish and chips dinner?"
As she asked, it looks almost as if she was looking at the woman expectantly. It was like a child giving puppy dog eyes when begging for candy.
"I...I mean only if you want to that is. I will cook for you of course."
A nervous chuckle came out from Raven. She’s just well-mannered and usually speaks formally when it comes to socializing,
"Sorry about that, I'm very used to properly speaking with people in a formal manner." She explained. She eyes drew to Yunneth, who accidentally scalded her tongue with the hot tea and Raven couldn't help but chuckle,
"Careful, you don't want to lose your taste buds, or you'll never get to taste good food tonight." She saw the tiny tears forming in the corner of Yunneth's eye and with her fingertips, Raven wiped them away, giving her a smile. She continued on, by grabbing her own cup of tea, "I don't think I want to enjoy some dinner by myself." she took another sip of the chamomile.
"...I owe it to you to be a good hostess."
It’s true to Raven, Yunneth’s being a good hostess to her, and she’s doing great at keeping her company. Raven began to hope she’s doing the same for her, in return. It’s these two girls only, keeping each other company and Raven very much likes that. For the longest time, she never got to acquaint with someone, mostly because she kept herself distant, or she was too quiet to do so and loses the courage to say something. Another reason is because if there was any chatting with others, it would only be just small talk, going nowhere after that and giving Raven not much of a reason to keep in touch.
When asked if she knows how to make calamari, Raven became rather familiar with it. In fact, it’s almost easy to make the dish! The difficult part was mostly the covering, but it isn't that hard, just time consuming at most.
"Do you have squid and the ingredients to make the batter?" She asked, "If you mainly have those, then it'll be not much of a problem to make. I don't mind having a seafood delicacy."
When her tears were wiped away, Yunneth let out a light sniffle before regaining some of her composure. Her tongue was still sore from the slight burn. At least she wasn't going to cry about it. When told that she could make the dish, Yunneth's eyes grew big as if Raven was going to give her something she wanted the most. And with that, the raven haired girl got up and began to place the squid and ingredients onto the counter. She was happy the fisherman who lives in the apartment complex came by to give her some fish. Seeing that her friend was willing to make calamari for her seemed to make Yunneth giddy.
"Feel free to finish your cookies and tea."
And with that, she sat back down and began to eat her sweets and drink her tea. She seemed to be excited as she sat as her foot was making a light tap. She loved that dish greatly and for someone to make it for her made her even happier. How could she not contain her happiness? It was like a cat receiving catnip. It seemed even simple things like a meal made Yunneth happy
Raven’s hazel eyes followed Yunneth grabbing the ingredients that are needed to make the calamari. She soon thought that the girl must've been wanting to make this sort of dish for some time, and possibly wasn't sure how to make it, or was unsure if she would make it right. It’s rather understandable, since sometimes cooking the squid could be tedious and all, and then of course having to cover it with the batter. However, she’s willing to do anything to repay Yunneth's gratitude of inviting her here. After all, she did ask Yunneth about making takoyaki back at Ryoutei. She may as well do the same for her, in return. Thinking of it as a trade, a deal, recipe for recipe.
"Feel free to finish your cookies and tea."
("Oh right, I almost forgot about that.") Raven thought to herself, looking back at her chamomile tea with the cookies placed right next to it. She lift her cup again, taking another sip of the tea that still has the nice and sweet taste to it, along with the taste of the sweet cookies as well. She admired it, it was a perfect combination.
She took her time on finishing her tea and immediately ate her cookies after. She enjoyed the snacks and now, it was time to cook Yunneth the calamari.
"Excited, are ya?" she giggled, finding the girl's exhilaration adorable. Raven stood up from the couch and walked towards the kitchen, where all the ingredients and the squid were set out. She turned her face Yunneth,
"If you want to, you can watch me cook it so you know how to make it right."
your notes can go here; both of these dealios go to two lines, but keep it short!
Little did Raven know that Yunneth knew fully well how to make calamari. She knew the steps and everything. Since it is her favorite dish, it was the first one she knew how to properly make. Why wouldn't she know how to make it? Her reason for making her friend make the dish? Because she has only tasted her own calamari but never a second parties dish. She wanted to try Ravens. Once the two girls were finished with their sweets and tea, it was time to get down to cooking. And it seems Reiko will be cooking first. When asked if she is excited, Yunneth's brown eyes widened a little,a faint smile on her face.
"...Perhaps a little."
When offered to watch, The girl chuckled nervously.
"Actually...I know how to make the dish myself but i want to see another make it. I want to see how another cooks calamari tastes compared to mine. I do not care who cooks it better. I just want to see it flavor wise..."
The raven said plainly and perhaps a little bluntly. Well it is true. She wanted to compare her calamari to Ravens though she herself wont have to cook it. She has eaten enough of her own to memorize the taste.
"Is there anything else you need before you start?"
