Grumbling to herself, the girl let out a deep sigh. For some reason, Rurutie feels really insecure and cranky today, to the point that she barely able to control herself. Barely—because somehow she was able to pretend she was not feeling well and asked the math teacher for permission to go to the infirmary, but instead of actually going there, the young vampire went to the rooftop instead, sitting down somewhere along the walls.
It was rather unusual, really. Despite being totally insecure among people and prone to sudden, severe anxiety attack especially in crowds, usually Rurutie would keep her emotions in check during classes, hiding them behind her aloofness. Even if she was feeling really bad, she would just try her best to stay calm and suppress her emotions so people would not see her weakness. Today, she behaved as if her insecurities totally overwhelmed her. Thankfully she didn't just run away out of her class without saying anything.
Good thing the rooftop was quiet, so the dark-haired vampire was able to calm herself down, albeit complaining to herself now and then. So quiet and breezy that the girl didn't want to move one bit even after she felt better. Instead, Rurutie buried her head between her knees, closing her eyes as she did that.
I hope no one comes here... I really don't want to go back to the class...

Grace panted heavily as she dragged herself onto the school roof. She was late for school yet again due to a last minute message she had to run to a vampire family in the demon world. She was lucky everyone was in class otherwise she would have caused panic if a human had happened upon a slightly larger than normal wolf roaming the school. It would have most certainly caused an uproar. One she didn't really want to deal with at this point. She was far too tired.
Upon reaching the roof, Grace noticed a girl sitting against a wall. She seemed upset... Flicking her tail once, the Volf girl slowly approached the young vampire and sat before her, her mismatched eyes glittering with curiosity. "Are you okay? You seem to be distressed." Grace wasn't sure what could be upsetting this vampire. After her Volf clan had merged with a vampire clan back in Australia after the white convicts had been released from their imprisonment and human activity spiked, she had learnt that vampires could be subject many different reasons for distress. Oppressive hunger, their own immorality taking its toll in them, along with many other causes. And since Grace in particular was more closely connected with vampires than most of her kind, she was concerned about the girl...
To be honest, Rurutie felt a little bit guilty for lying to the teacher about going to the infirmary. She didn't want to lie, honestly, but she had no choice since there's no way she would be allowed to leave class simply because she felt uncomfortable inside and wanted some peace. Actually she did thought of really going to the infirmary—maybe she could get some rest there—but then after second thoughts, she decided not to. The school physician or nurse might ask her if she's feeling sick and who knows? Maybe they would administer some medicine, probably even a sedative to her if she told them the truth. No, she didn't want it, she just wanted to calm herself. Simply as that.
The young vampire did planned to go back to the class once she felt better, but the serenity of the rooftop and the light breeze made her change her mind completely. She was afraid if she did go back to the class as planned she would experience yet another sudden anxiety attack—it was not a nice feeling, really. That's why she wished no one ever come to the rooftop, especially any of her classmates or teachers. For a somewhat selfish but arguably good reason, she wanted to avoid the class. Just for now...
Alas, her peaceful time was interrupted by a voice that sounded as if it was concerned about her well-being. The dark-haired vampire looked up to find who was talking to her and found another girl was there, looking at her with curiously concerned eyes. Why she is here? The vampire girl frowned a bit knowing someone had found her before burying her head back between her knees as she answered the other girl's question. "There is nothing for you to worry about, I guess."
A momentary silence, before the young vampire spoke again. "I just wanted for some peace. Could you leave me alone, I wonder?"
What's a heartbeat with a heartache What's a hurricane without the rain What's the moon without the stars That's how it feels when we're apart
This vampire clearly was not happy, and yet, she couldn't understand why. She didn't seem fatigued? Was it depression? She couldn't tell. "Nothing for me to worry about?" She repeated quietly. "But you are clearly upset. Why shouldn't I worry about you?" She blinked, confused at her words. Did she really not want to talk to someone about what was bothering her? In a way, she could understand why. Grace was a complete stranger. The two had never met, and she was sure she had never seen this girl before. It would be strange and uncomfortable to tell a stranger one's personal issues. Still, Grace couldn't just up and leave this girl. It didn't feel right. When the girl requested that Grace left her be, the wolf girl shook her head. "I cannot." She stated firmly. "You're clearly upset and I won't leave you be in this state. I can understand if you don't want to talk about whatever is bothering you, but I will keep you company until you are feeling better."
Rurutie kept silent when the other girl repeated her words and asked why she shouldn't worry about the vampire girl. The short-haired girl sounded genuine, but she was a complete stranger to Rurutie, and for some reasons, Rurutie felt even more uncomfortable. She just couldn't really trust people, especially a stranger, in this kind of situation and mood. Hell, not even a friend could make her open up about her problems ninety-nine percent of the time. And, well, all that she wanted at the moment was to be left completely alone. Yet the other girl seemed pretty stubborn. She said that she won't leave Rurutie be in her current state and keep her company until she's feeling better.
"I don't need a company, I think." Rurutie responded, still keeping her head between knees, a little bit irritated at the other girl's persistence. A moment later she sighed and asked, "Why are you so persistent? We're strangers—"
Rurutie cut her own sentence off, unsure how to finish. Though, probably the other girl would understand what she wanted to say even without it being finished. Seriously, why?
The young vampire closed her eyes once again, silently wishing the other girl would change her mind and leave her be.
'Cause I feel I can always show my everything to you I try to hear, lend my ear Voices inside One link to join it all
Grace frowned at the vampire's stubbornness. "You may not think you need company." She said. "But I know you do. As I said, you don't have to talk to me about what's bothering you, but if you would like to talk about something, I have some rather interesting kangaroo stories up my sleeve." The Volf was confused. This girl really didn't want to talk to her, it seemed. Usually by now someone would've said something, even if it was just 'family problems' or 'I had a fight with my friend'. But this girl wasn't giving away anything at all. When she once again question her motives, Grace just smiled softly. "Sometimes, a friend is just a stranger you haven't met yet. You know, for half of my life, part of my family were just strangers to me. Well, they aren't all my immediate family, of course, but that's not the point." Grace pulled on the small chain hanging around her neck and pulled the necklace from her shirt, a small, steel wolf's fang pendent glinting softly under the moonlight, showing the girl what she was. "I may just be a mere Volf messenger," she said, leaning back on her hands. "but that doesn't mean a like to see a vampire in such a state." As far as Grace knew, she was Kamina's only Volf messenger. Since the supernatural population wasn't as high as a place like Tokyo or Osaka, there wasn't any need for more than one messenger when familiars were used more than them in the first place. It was lonely, not having another Volf to talk to. She sighed and looked back at the girl. "Really, you must be pretty upset..."
@eternalprincess Notes; I eventually dragged my muse's ass off the ground
Rurutie just ignored the other girl's word when she said something about company, problem, and even kangaroo stories. In the current state of hers, Rurutie really thought she didn't need a company. Not if eventually she will persuade me to go back to my class. To be honest, though, she was a little bit curious about the kangaroo stories the short-haired girl mentioned, but she just pretended to be totally uninterested and kept silent for a moment.
The young vampire looked up when the other girl answered her question. "A friend.. Stranger you haven't met... Yet?" Rurutie repeated what the girl said in a low voice before falling silent yet again, listening to what she said. She blinked for a moment when the girl showed her a necklace with a steel wolf's fang pendant and told her what she was, as well as indicating that she did really concerned about Rurutie's state.
"It must be pretty clear already that I'm upset, I think," she responded flatly to the other girl's words about being upset. The vampire then sighed as she leaned her back against the wall and looked up at the sky. "Those kangaroo stories...," her cornflower-colored eyes turned to the Volf girl now, "Would you tell me one, I wonder?"
Rurutie didn't want to tell this girl her problems. Not now. But if the girl was so persistent to accompany her. then she would like to hear her stories. Maybe, just maybe, it would help lift her mood up. Who knows?
[lost my code and this may be short bc I'm currently on a caffeine high]
Grace smiled kindly when the girl repeated her words. "Yup~ You just have to give those strangers a chance. You might end up with a new friend by the week's end." Not that Grace was any good at making conversation with strangers. Most of her contact with said strangers was strictly business, and they didn't really have any interest in talking to her anyways. Well, either that, or she was a little too socially awkward for most people to hold conversation with her. She often forgot that she was living in the 21st century and not the 1800's, and that some things just weren't socially acceptable this day and age. And not to mention that she was born and bred in Australia, which is far more lenient when it comes to...well, a lot of things, really. When she mentioned how clear it was that she was upset, Grace just smiled sheepishly. "Very much so. But, sometimes that's not a bad thing. Sometimes people need to know when you're troubled or upset. It doesn't help to keep to yourself all the time. Sometimes, you just need to talk to someone about your troubles." She remembered the months following her parent's deaths, and how she would refuse to have any contact with anyone. It wasn't until her clan had to migrate and merge with a nearby vampire clan, when Grace was forced from her solitude and essentially had to communicate with others. Looking back on it now, she as glad she did eventually open up about her inner turmoil. She sometimes wished she had done so sooner. "N-not that I'm forcing you to talk about the of course. But...if you do need someone to talk to, I'm all ears. And wolves have very good hearing, I'll have you know." When the vampire requested to hear her kangaroo stories, Grace's face visibly lit up. "Really? Ah, well, I do have this one..." Grace cleared her throat and tried to think back to one particular event after Australia became a little more civilized. "Well, I actually witnessed this happen while I was hunting." She said, furrowing her brow and scanning through her 200 plus years of memories. "A couple of tourists had come to Australia and were driving about, sightseeing, I guess. But, they had hit a kangaroo that hopped out onto the road." She thought for a little longer before continuing. "These two men were pretty buzzed, so they did the sensible thing and propped this dead kangaroo up and one of them put their jacket on it and started taking pictures with the poor animal." Grace shook her head at the memory. Honestly, humans baffled her at times. "Anyways, after they took a few pictures with it, it suddenly came back to life and tried to have a go at the men before it hopped off. They were pretty surprised. I was too, actually. But the roo wasn't actually dead. It was just passed out, see? Had me fooled..." She cleared her throat again. "In any case, the humans couldn't get back into their car and continue their little road trip 'cause apparently the keys to the car were in the jacket they had put on the roo, so they ended up having to walk back to wherever they came from." Grace smiled a little. "Later on, I saw a kangaroo wearing a jacket near the bush surrounding our clan's camp. Could only assume it was the same one..."
For a moment, Rurutie pondered about the girl's words. It was already more than two years after she began leaving the comfort of her room to attend classes and sometimes visit various places in town, but Rurutie had not made friends, yet—well, not that much. If she was going to be honest, she did not really care whether if she has a friend or not, but another side of her sometimes thought that it feels a little bit lonely. Maybe it was because she did not give enough chance for others to get to know her—but then again, Rurutie was not sure if she could trust others as much as she trusted her brothers and some of her maids.
One side of her agreed with what the other girl had said and would like to try giving others chance to get to know her and be friends, another side was just... Nope. I'm fine. I am totally fine. I don't really care about friends.
The young vampire was just being silent when the short-haired girl told her that sometimes it's good to let people know that one's in trouble or upset, and that sometimes one needed to talk to someone about their troubles. Somehow what she said was true, but—did Rurutie ever say that it was not easy for her to trust others? It was the truth, and because she could not trust others that easily, talking to someone else—especially a stranger—about her problems was a problem itself. As the other girl told Rurutie that if she needed someone to talk to she was all ears and informed her about how good a wolf's hearing was, the dark-haired vampire just sighed, leaned her back against the wall and requested a kangaroo story.
Rurutie could see how the other girl was excited when she asked for a kangaroo story. She gave a small nod when the girl wanted to make sure she really wanted to hear her stories before listening to the story intently. Sometimes she would tilt her head, sometimes she would blink, sometimes she made a soundless 'ah', but other than that, Rurutie did not do much things. She even did not make any comment until the girl finished her story.
"A kangaroo wearing jacket, huh?" The vampire was trying her best to stifle a laugh. "That's—interesting, I think. Any other kangaroo story, I wonder?"
By the moment she said that, Rurutie was already not as upset as she was before.
