"The theme in this literature project is up to you. This is a four to six page essay due in the next two weeks. Make sure you list your sources and make everything well organized."
That is her assignment. An essay? She hated writing those. At least the writing requirements were lax. All they had to do is make it four to six pages and place it in a folder to be reviewed. After thinking about the theme, she figured why not make the theme about one of the worlds most popular monsters? She was thinking vampires since there are so many variants talked about through history. Perhaps she could include things such as Bram Stoker's Dracula. She wondered if she could even fit in Vlad the Impaler since he is a inspiration for the story. She would have to figure it out once she bought the books she needed. Yes, she could just check out the books at a library but once the project is done she might sit down and read those books herself. She liked things involving the super natural anyway. And here she is now, at the book store; tracking down the books she needed.
"Ok...so maybe two or three books might work. The rest i can look up online."
She mumbled to herself before approaching the shelf with many books on the super natural and legends as well as mythical creatures from around the world. She found the first book but the second that caught her attention is on the fourth shelf up. A annoyed groan escaped her lips, knowing this was going to be trouble some. The girl began to jump. Over and over she jumped but to no avail. The book was not even in reach of her finger tips.
"5'2"...ugh! Of all heights, I had to be that short?!"
The talks she had with her grandmother briefly went through her mind. Her saying due to her premature birth that she would be a late bloomer. Well if she was going to bloom, now would be the bloody time! After jumping once more, The girl stood there, hanging her head in defeat.
It was days like these where the eldest Mukami had to do something necessary and by necessary, it was something he needed to take care of for himself. Usually Ruki would leave for necessities of his brothers or if he needed to take mind off something that involved with the Mukami brothers that was problematic. However, it was neither of those reasons this time. The black-haired vampire arrived at the bookstore, in search for another book which by possibly to the Mukami family is a surprise since their older brother has read so many throughout his entire eternal life. There couldn't possibly be any book out there that he has not have already read unless they were recently released.
After his arrival, Ruki looked through bookshelf after bookshelf, mostly in search of books that were made back in the past which he admired most. Surely there had to be another book out there from the olden days that he has not read but seeing the titles, he knew he's read most of these stories numerous times. Reluctantly, he knew he had no choice but to go look at the modern novels and none of those really caught his attention since most recently made stories were either involved with romance of the supernatural, very popular love-triangle teen novels or horribly written erotica.
Awhile later, Ruki felt that he was wasting his time which was something he definitely didn't like at all. He liked using his time wisely and today just didn't turn out to be well for him. The elder Mukami thought of the humans as foolish for their anticipated requests of romance between vampires or other "mythical" creatures by popularity, he believed that they don't realize what the supernatural truly is. His thoughts were suddenly broken when he heard repetitive noises on the other side of the bookshelf where he was located. Do people seriously have the audacity to just jump around in a quiet area? He tend to ignore the noises at first, but since it was so constant, he made an irritated groan. Having no choice, the vampire investigated on why there was such behavior going on at the other side. It was then that he noticed that this act was not meant to be intentional to disturb others, but out of desperation, spotting on girl inches smaller than the vampire and reaching for a book on the higher shelves. With an annoyed yet calm look on his face, Ruki took a sharp breath and closed his eyes. Can this female really be that simple-minded?
"If you're in that much of need for a book that's out of your reach, perhaps asking for some assistance instead of making a fool out of yourself, and distracting others while they're reading would be a way to solve your problem." He said in a calm tone but made it clear that she was becoming a nuisance.
@coilednoble The girl took a few deep breaths, trying to steady her breathing. Though this happened every now and then, it did not happen too often which meant she is not completely used to having to jump for things. She felt so small. It is humiliating! All she wished for is that single book. Just as she was about to give up, she watched as a young man dressed in all black approached her. To Yunneth, he seemed more or less irritated. And it obviously had something to do with her constant jumping. It is not her fault. If She could grow like a bean stalk, she would be happy.
"I...I'm sorry.."
She bowed her head, thinking about his words. Perhaps he is right. Maybe she should have asked for help, right? Of course he did not have to be so blunt and cold about it. Now he was just being mean.
"If that is the case, will you assist me?"
When comparing 5'2" to what she assumes to be 5'11, he obviously could get the book for her. Besides, he was the one who said she should get assistance. He never said who it should be from.
"Please?"
She asked with a pleading voice, her brown eyes looking into his blue ones.
She at least finally stopped after he made his comment towards her, apologizing for her behavior though Ruki still found her very foolish, his views of her increased when she asked him for his help to reach for whatever book she was aiming for. Ruki was never the type of person who helped anyone who was inferior to him in his eyes, unless it was his brothers but even then, he would be just giving them a rather cold yet, still in a way helpful advice to them. Ruki walked on, it would seem that he'd be walking towards her and give the personal assistance, but he just passed by her instead.
"Do you honestly believe, that all because I gave you the advice to ask for some assistance, that I would be the one who would do so?" he questioned her, "Don't be so haughty for finding yourself worthy to earn my aid, it's repugnant. Search for someone who is employed to the building or are you that absentminded of who works here?" His calm face masked the irritation but his tone of voice was so blunt. The elder Mukami was not the person who tolerated with someone begging for help, not even the girl's pleading eyes did all the justice. "Now if you excuse me, I'll be searching for a book elsewhere since you have wasted seconds of my time." He continued to make his departing way until he added, "Besides, you didn't even specify what book it was that you wanted. Next time, go in detail before asking."
@coilednoble The moment the young man opened his mouth as well as pass the book shelf, Yunneth's changed from pleading to offended within a five second span. What was this guys problem? and Why was he acting so high and mighty? It made her think about people in the past who act just like that. Such arrogance. Did he think he was someone that important? So much for being a decent human being. Men like him made Yunneth cringe. It is nice to feel you are important but it should not get to the point where you feel you are at the level of a king.
"Don't be so haughty for finding yourself worthy to earn my aid, it's repugnant. Search for someone who is employed to the building or are you that absentminded of who works here?"
Yunneth narrowed her warm, amber brown eyes. Who ever said she had to be worthy?!
"It is called being "A decent human being..."
She retorted, an offended tone in her voice.
"A simple "no" would have sufficed instead of flaunting your arrogance."
She spoke politely but showing her dissatisfaction with his attitude
"And to answer your question, no i do not know who works here!"
She clicked her tongue before turning to the shelf. She felt ashamed of even asking such a man for help. Why did she bother anyway?! She walked away for a few minutes, trying to get a employees attention. But the employees seemed too focused on their work to even acknowledge her or did see her but could not get to her. What kind of service is this?! Were they short handed or did they not care? She did her best to keep her patience, knowing customers can be judgmental but it still irked her. Yunneth returned to the bookshelf and stared at the book. It looked to be a demonology book. It looked like something she was needing for the project but she just could not get it. She really did not know what else to do but to jump up and try and grab the book. Perhaps have the tips of her fingers pull it out little by little. Soon she started to jump, stretching her arm as far as humanly possible.
"Ugh!...Just...a little..."
She could get her fingers to hit the spine of the book but she did not have enough time between jumps to get some sort of hold on it. As she jumped, she knew she would be here awhile.
TAG. @yunnethsinclaire WORDS. 419 NOTES. Resuming on to this thread that needs to be finished lol
"I was by no means at what you say flaunting my arrogance." The black haired vampire looked over his shoulder, narrowing his taupe eyes at the girl. She had either the nerve or the stupidity to call him out for his arrogance, "I was only telling you my suggestions on doing something else than wasting my time on aiding someone so unobservant as you." The girl would only add more to his thoughts of her being clueless when she confirmed that she didn't know anyone who works here. Ruki made a sigh "Good grief, you truly are ignorant."
Moments later the girl walked off to go find some assistance, since he was now alone once again, Ruki did realize that he didn't exactly observe through this side of the bookshelf. Despite that he was bothered about how much time was consumed and he was still unable to find a book, the oldest of the Mukamis made the decision to look around here in hopes that there's at least one book that he has not read yet. The more he looked through the shelf, the more he saw how many titles he was already familiar with. Ruki was about to turn away again until he saw one title that caught his eye. He wasn't sure whether he had or had not read the book before but just read the title, skimming it over and over again. As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner was the novel Ruki was currently glancing at. Better than never finding a book, Ruki reached for the novel, grasping it by the spine and took it out. He looked at the backside of the book for a summary of what the story was about and was sure that he has never read it before. Then, the vampire opened the book to read the first few pages of the novel until suddenly...the girl had returned, with nobody.
He didn't pay much thought, simply ignoring the small girl's reoccur. She at least didn't speak with him again, that way he can at least continue to read. All that peace and quiet however ended short when she jumped repetitively to reach for her the book she desired. Was there no one who worked here that could've help? Were mortals really that tenacious? Another sigh of annoyance was released from the elder Mukami and he closed the book that he held in his hands, "What book is it that you so desire on this shelf? Is it really that important?"
The more she jumped, the more she began to tire herself out. She was tempted to grab a munch of books and stand on the stacked pile like a stepping stool. This was ridiculous! If this report was not needed within a fixed amount of time, she would have just ordered offline and be done with it! This was near impossible! The frustration made her want to cry! Before it got to the point, the same boy from before approached her. Was he feeling bad for just leaving her? Or was he just annoyed? Yunneth doubted it would be thee former. When asked what book she is wanting and if it is that important, the raven nodded.
"The book on demonology. It's next to the book of paranormal encounters I need it for a school project and I really want to do well."
She wanted to do her best. And if the books will help in her efforts then she would get them if at all possible. She just wanted to show she was working as hard as she could. Praise is always nice. If anything it makes her happy and it tells her she did something well but as long as the effort was shown, she was happy.
Ruki honestly didn’t care about what the school project was about but wondered what is it with humans and their fascination towards creatures of the occult? Of all subjects this girl wanted to use, it involved with demonology. Demons were supposed to be terrifying to humans, right? So what was this girl wanting to know about them or at least the whole demonic belief? It shouldn't matter to the elder Mukami since he has gotten what he needed but obviously the other needed to take care of business by needing this book she so desired. He sighed but kept his calm mask on, "If I get this book about terrifying creatures the occult for you," He began to speak, "Will you then stop making so much noise?" This was a surprise. Ruki would never help anyone at any extent since mostly everyone was inferior to him at least but was he finally going to give some of his assistance?
"Do not think that I'll be doing this out of pity because of your default height, I'm doing this so you can stop with this constant racket." Though it wasn't really her fault besides, no one who worked here even showed up to help her out. People must be very ignorant to others.
Without giving her the answer to say 'yes' or anything since he was already irritated and more of his time was wasted, Ruki just grabbed the book out from the shelf and handed it to her before taking his leave, "I'll have you know that whatever is in this book is more than likely filled with lying facts since it's written by humans with very closed-minds." After handing the book to her, the male knew that his business had been done just before she came back. He should've been gone already but the behaviors these foolish people have was atrocious. "Now if you excuse me, I'll be on my way." He said turning around and making his own departing.
Before she could answer the young man, Yunneth was given the book she had been hounding and jumping for since she found it. Well...his motives for helping her stung a bit but she couldn't complain. When told that what ever is in the book is most likely lies, Yunneth just pouted. As much as she wanted to give feed back, she was tempted to say that some stranger was not worth it. He is not worth it. Besides, she is not the type to be set off by such people. If he wanted to be an arrogant jerk, that is his business. Soon she heard his words as he stated he would be taking his leave.
"...Uh...thank you I guess?"
And with that she is alone. Well...at least she has the needed books now. And is still below the budget she set. With a satisfied smile, Yunneth walked to the cashier, paid for her books and went on her merry way. This expirence was more or less exhausting. But at least it is over.
