FAME... FORTUNE... IS IT WRONG IF I WISH FOR MORE?

It was a clear evening. A young girl was walking alone calmly along the side of the path, approaching the main shrine. As she reached the purification fountain, she began the purification ritual, rinsing both her hands and mouth as a symbol of purifying one's body and mind. The young girl then approached the offering hall, rummaging through her purse silently, and throwed the first coin that she could find into the offertory box. She then rang the bell, did the praying ritual—bow, bow, wish, clap, clap, bow—and so, Karen's routine ritual at the shrine ended.

That day was just another weekend, another time for her to visit the shrine. The violet-haired girl went there at least twice in a month, most of the time simply for praying, though sometimes she would also try her luck with the omikuji. There were also times when Karen would bring her old omamori and return it as well as buying new ones, but she had bought a new one last time she went to the shrine and other ones were still under one year old, so she had no need to buy another today. For a moment, Karen thought about trying her luck—last time she got an omikuji which said her fortune level was 'future misfortune', which she had to tie on the ropes near the omikuji booth.

After some time, she finally made up her mind and approached the omikuji booth. After putting a 100 yen coin into the payment box, she grabbed one of the long wooden boxes, shaking it. No stick was coming out, so the girl shook the box harder, but it seemed none of the sticks inside wanted to come out. Another attempt, still no stick. At her fourth attempt, the young girl finally succeeded. She was relieved, though as soon as she read the number, she sighed inwardly. It was four, and four was bad usually.

Let's hope I don't get 'great misfortune', she thought as she opened the drawer with the number four, taking a paper from the inside. Walking away from the booth, Karen tried to keep her expression as calm as possible as she read what was written on the paper.

F-future misfortune, again? Oh, no! I must tie this on the ropes... Uh, but I'm curious what kind of misfortune would befall on me...

"Well, let's see...," Karen murmured to herself as she sat on a bench under a big tree.
