A surprisingly chilly breeze swept a thin lock of black hair into Reiji's eyes. He didn't miss a beat in sweeping it back in with the rest of his part, as he carefully set up the telescope. Kamina's countryside was an ideal location for stargazing, and although the second Sakamaki brother enjoyed tracking the movements (or apparent movements) of celestial bodies through the night sky, he usually could not find the time to do so. Tonight was special; although he disliked that the condition of his being out here was to basically be a substitute teacher for an optional lesson, he welcomed the excuse to be away from his brothers.
The instructor that had tasked him with this - Morishige-sensei - had been trying to drum up interest in this for a couple of weeks. Since he was the physics teacher, he often included discussions of astronomy in his lectures, and offered the trip as extra credit for any student who was counted in attendance. A location, date, and time were all determined, the weather forecasts predicted perfectly cool, clear weather... and then Morishige came down with a particularly nasty cold. In a last-ditch effort, he contacted Reiji and sincerely petitioned for him to take the sensei's place in teaching the lesson. As this was one of the few teachers at Ryoutei that the vampire genuinely respected (rather than simply putting up a polite facade to maintain appearances), Reiji accepted on the condition that Morishige-sensei would repay him later. Though the teacher was generally known to be a trustworthy man, Reiji still made sure to write down the terms of their agreement in case it ever came into question.
A black leather satchel had been meticulously packed with all the necessary tools, and sat under the telescope's tripod stand - albeit slightly askew - as the third-year removed a compass and a flashlight that glowed red (to prevent the loss of night vision... not that he really had this problem, but it never hurt to be cautious). He used these first to direct the telescope to face almost precisely due southeast. There were no bright lights for many kilometers, and not a cloud in the sky, so the view was spectacularly clear; at least three planets were supposed to be visible in the southern sky tonight.
Reiji tucked an almanac and a star map under one arm, and pulled out his pocket watch to check the time: 1:18am. Participants were told to arrive at or before 1:30am... and provide their own transportation. Frankly, he'd rather enjoyed the quiet limousine ride out to this field in what felt like the middle of nowhere, and would have been perfectly content to stargaze by himself if no other students showed up. He figured that he would get a reward regardless, even if that reward was nothing more than a few hours of solitude with one of his hobbies.

Welp, the curmudgeon has come out of hiding or whatever he was doing this totally isn't an excuse for me to geek out about astronomy Reiji needed a thread anyway.
A perfect clear night, the stars are out and more than likely, shining at their brightest. It’s a good night to watch the stars and who knows, maybe a shooting star will pass by. A gentle breeze seeps its way through the cracked window of Raven’s bedroom while she looked out. The vampire is unable to see the starry night sky from her own household as some of the untamed branches of the trees have blocked her view. However, it was heard that there was going to be a Ryoutei off-campus activity out on the countryside, and those who join would get extra credit.
It’s a good enough excuse to not be at the Okazaki household for tonight, at least. Although she didn’t exactly need extra credit, Raven didn’t mind doing so. It’s just stargazing, right? At least it isn’t physical education or anything vigorous. She might as well wear the school uniform for tonight, except the skirt. There’s no way in Hell that she is ever going to wear the skirt outside. Forget the bows while at it, they’re only in the way. It wasn’t that Raven didn’t like wearing bows and skirts because they’re “girly” or anything, it’s just that she found them unsuitable to her. Besides all she needed was the jacket, right? That’s enough proof that she’s a student from Ryoutei Academy, is wearing the whole uniform that necessary? The vampire tossed on her dress shirt and school jacket and as for the bottom half, the usual; shorts, leggings and boots. In addition, she put on some accessories just for the hell of it. It’s not like people are going to judge her for wearing a spiked collar with a couple of rings and bracelets.
After finding some transportation to the countryside, along with a late night snack from a gullible innocent as an act of thanks, Raven made her way out of her victim’s car and took a souvenir while at it. She shoved a lighter in her pocket, walking onto the wide, empty fields and licking her lips to clean off the remaining blood of her meal. There were little to no lights and the breeze was colder, good thing she didn’t wear the skirt. Her hazel eyes drew to that of a tall silhouette nearby, along with what happens to a telescope. Perhaps the teacher, another student? Where on earth are the other students? Is she late? Early? So many questions running through Raven’s mind and she became unsure on what the answers are.
Tugging on her collar, Raven continued towards the spot she assumes the activity would start. Admittedly, being the first or the last person to arrive always gave her an awkward or uneasy feeling. She took a deep breath to relax as she got closer, being able to observe the other person and whatever else around. The person turned out not to be a teacher, but a student. Before she could ask about the teacher’s whereabouts or about her timing, a sudden drop of unbalance interrupted her.
“Shit.” Raven blurted out. She turned her head down to the cause, only to see that the heel of her boot has partially sunken down on loose dirt. “Ah damn it.” She muttered under her breath and clicked her tongue, pulling out her heel from the small hole.
A dark-haired young woman sighed as she stepped out from the car that drove her to the countryside. She did not really want to do this, to be honest. Despite the fact that it was a perfectly clear night, and the countryside was a beautiful place, if not pretty much quiet, Rurutie did not want to go out at all—not even when she heard that the physics teacher offered some extra credits for any students who join an off-campus stargazing activity.
Extra credit, huh? Who in the world needs that? I don't care.
Sometimes the young vampire wondered why some people care so much about their school grades, sometimes even go as far as asking for extra credits to boost them, even when they already had decent grades. Rurutie has nothing against academic grades, seriously, but what was the point of taking extra credits and getting good grades if one did not learn anything? Having straight As in every subject makes no warranty that someone is really smart and skilled.
Then why the cornflower blue-eyed vampire ended up at the place that was supposed to be the location for the 'stargazing'? The answer was simple: she was bored. As simple as that. She was in her library, reading a book when suddenly she felt bored—maybe it was because she had read the same book several times already throughout the week, but if Rurutie was going to be honest, she did not know what actually caused her boredom because it was rather unusual for her to be bored from reading a book in her own library. At first she wanted to go to the botanical garden, then all of a sudden, she remembered Morishige-sensei's off-campus activity, and thought, Alright, why not join the stargazing activity?
The decision was pretty much a last minute change since even Rurutie's eldest brother was surprised to see her in her uniform—or at least something that looked like a uniform because the young vampire simply put her dress shirt and jacket over her t-shirt and a skirt that was very similar to Ryoutei's uniform skirt, as well as her signature black thigh high socks. Not only that, their family chauffeur also gave a questioning look when Rurutie flatly told him to drive her to the countryside—she had to explain about the off-campus activity before he finally took her to where she was at the moment.
The dark-haired vampire walked towards the seemingly empty field, looked around, and let out another sigh. So far she could only see a silhouette of someone and something that looks like a telescope—wait, no, it's two silhouettes, actually. For a second Rurutie felt somewhat relieved because she arrived before pretty much everyone else. After taking a deep breath, she continued to walk towards the other people, who were—Students? I thought the teacher is already here.
"Where's the teacher?" Instead of a proper greeting, that was what came out from Rurutie's mouth as soon as she was near the others.
"So uh....I get a reward for helping you out...right?"
"Of course! I don't have any money but I have...an apple!"
Yunneth carried a wicker basket with what seemed to hold some fruits, a few baked goods and cans of what can be assumed to be sodas and fruit juices. It is assumed to be for the students who are attending the star gazing event. Yunneth decided to hitchhike to the area where the students would be meeting as she couldn't find a proper mode of transportation. She decided to walk but in her mind, someone was kind enough to get her where she needed to go. The driver just chuckled nervously, taking the apple as she gets out. Yunneth made her way through the darkness of night. The raven began to dig through the basket, looking for something to eat while walking before choosing another apple. She had to admit, she enjoyed the night better than the day. There always seemed to be more beauty when the lights go out. She didn't know why but going out at night and exploring was something Yunneth enjoyed. As Yunneth walked to the field she took the time to just listen to the crickets and sounds around her.
"How peaceful..."
She muttered under her breath. Perhaps she should skip and just enjoy nature on her own. Perhaps she could find a cave to explore. The creepy darkness, the old, musty scent of the cave, the excitement of what she could find...how could someone REFUSE a trip to a cave at night?!
"Ah but if I did that, I would have to gorge myself on all the treats I brought for everyone...and then i will be sluggish and fall asleep out here..."
Yunneth sighed. Star gazing it is then. It might be fun!
"Ah! There they are!"
She thought.
"Good evening everyone!"
She spoke happily She saw Raven and Rurutie before her. It seems she will be having some familiar faces with her.
"Raven-chan! Miyazawa-san! Good evening! And you are?"
She asked, directing her gaze towards the youngman before her.
It didn't take Raven's expressed expletive for Reiji to sense that he wasn't going to be alone, but it certainly gave him confirmation when he: first, smelled a whiff of others from upwind, and second, heard the not-so-distant rustling of grass underfoot. He couldn't be sure how well they could see him, but he could make out three figures: one, a young woman with an angled bob, and the other two with twin tails. Judging by the scents they carried, the first was a vampire of the "former mortal" variety, the second a pureblood like himself, and the third, a human. While he wasn't particularly thrilled at not getting the night to himself, at least a small part of him was grateful that none of his siblings had shown up just to spite him.
As the trio of girls gathered, it appeared that they had at least a passing familiarity with one another (not too surprising, considering that Ryoutei wasn't exactly a huge institution). However, the female pureblood inquired about the seeming lack of an instructor's presence, while at least the human had some semblance of basic manners.
Reiji resisted letting out a sigh, though he did momentarily close his eyes to center himself, his hands behind his back out of habit as he clutched a small notebook and a fountain pen. The second Sakamaki stood up straighter, and addressed them, "As you've likely noticed, there are no academy staff present. Morishige-sensei was originally scheduled to instruct you today, however, he fell ill with a severe seasonal virus and was unable to attend. He has requested that I lead this activity in his stead."
He cleared his throat, "Allow me to introduce myself: my name is Sakamaki Reiji, I am a third-year student at Ryoutei; however, for the duration of the time you're out here with me, you are to regard me as though I were your instructor."
Reiji then brought the notebook out and held it before him, removing the red flashlight from his pocket in the process, "Now, if there are no further questions at this juncture, Morishige-sensei has requested that I take attendance," he balanced his pen and flashlight, and positioned himself in preparation to write, "Clearly state your name and year for the record. This is to ensure that you can redeem your extra credit when you return to classes this week."

@reikookazaki , @eternalprincess , and @yunnethsinclaire It's about damn time I got around to this post! Anyway, here's a link to the view for the southeast at the time, I kind of just picked a random place in Japan and hoped for the best.
It was a relief that nobody seemed to have noticed Raven’s foolishness, but it was still embarrassing. At least she isn’t going to be alone on this activity, though. It’s already beneficial that she’s familiar with Yunneth and Rurutie, but mostly Yunneth. Rurutie was not exactly too familiar for Raven. Admittedly, she’s rather neutral with the pureblood, it’s mainly an odd vibe she’s giving that Raven felt awkward with. As for Yunneth, she’s mostly fond with her. Mainly, it’s because she’s human.
“Good evening to you as well, Yunneth-chan.” She greeted her friend, and turned to face Rurutie, “As to you, Rurutie-san.” The least she can do is be respectful for now, and not make a fool out of herself, again. Perhaps, also consider to wear shoes without heels the next time there’s an activity that involves having to be on plain ground.
Hearing the male student sighing, Raven kept her mouth shut, in case he speaks. He answered Rurutie’s question on the whereabouts of the teacher, who was supposed to attend this activity. He sadly won’t be attending tonight, due to a seasonal sickness he caught and thus, this student here, will take over instead as substitution. Well, it is that time of the season; weather changes, temperatures rising and falling. It’s terrifying how vulnerable the human body is to diseases, unless one has such a strong immune system.
He introduced himself; Sakamaki Reiji. He happens to be a third-year student and already, he spoke with such formality. To Raven, hopefully he isn’t much of an uptight and pompous jerk. It would be a long night of annoyance if he is. Analyzing him with her eyes, she noticed his posture; very straight and proper, as if this was a formal event. Speaking of proper, she also noticed that he’s very well-dressed by the way he’s wearing his school uniform. Comparing to her, this is actually embarrassing and luckily it’s not a formal event. The vampire felt like she just grabbed whatever, and threw it on.
Turning her face to the other girls, Raven made sure she didn’t interrupt either of them, if they were to say their name, first. Taking a deep breath, she decided to be the first to introduce herself, just so there won’t be any of those “you go first” moments. Clearing her throat and fixing up her posture, she spoke,
“I am a second-year student, my name is Okazaki Reiko—Raven!” She corrected herself, immediately. “Okazaki Raven.”
Once again, another act of being foolish. Her face heating up, it sounded perfect all in her head. She tried giving out a formal introduction, and she screwed up. Worst part, she gave out her former name. But she immediately said her other name, now. Surely, no one heard that “name”. She made a glance at Rurutie, gesturing her to introduce herself next.

Rurutie did not really care if she seemed a little bit rude to the ones who were already there. She just wanted to know where the teacher was at the moment. All that she saw were two other student, a black-haired female named Raven that she met a while ago prior to the stargazing activity, and a tall, dark-haired male vampire she had never met before. It's normal that I wonder where the teacher is, right?
Before the young vampire could get an answer for her question, a voice called out to her and Raven as well as the young man—greeted all of them. Rurutie drew her eyes to the source—it was another somewhat familiar face, a human girl named Yunneth she met at the botanical garden. To be honest, she was a little bit startled to hear her family's name, but just before Rurutie could correct Yunneth herself, Raven mentioned her name as she greeted both of them. Saves myself from telling Yunneth that I do prefer to be called by my first name. Thank you. Though, I wonder, did I tell her my family name back then? And, why is Yunneth bringing a basket with foods?
"Evening, Yunneth," she greeted the young human girl in return, before greeting the other female as well. "Evening, Raven." Whereas to the only male there, she simply gave him a little nod.
A moment later the male spoke, telling them that there were no academy staff present, indeed. Apparently the one who was supposed to accompany and teach them during the stargazing activity fell ill with a severe seasonal virus—just tell us that he caught a cold, please. The male student himself turned out to be named Sakamaki Reiji, a third-year student like Rurutie herself. He said that Morishige-sensei requested him to lead the activity instead, making Rurutie wondered why the teacher chose him, even though he clearly was a student as well. Perhaps he excelled at astronomy? He seems a little bit too formal, though.
The male then requested everyone present to state their name and year for attendance record, so they could redeem their extra credit when they return to classes that week. Raven was the first to respond, stating the year she is in first before introducing her name to the male—Rurutie resisted the temptation to look at the turned vampire with a questioning look. She was sure the first name she heard Raven used to introduce herself was not 'Raven', but—'Reiko'? The cornflower blue-eyed vampire did not make any comment about it, though. She simply took her turn to introduce herself as soon as Raven glanced at her.

Yunneth smiled happily at all who were present and those who greeted her. She listened as the young man before them introduced himself and wished to leanr the names of those who are now present. That was not surprising though she did find it surprising that the faculty would let a student do the teaching. So she is to speak to him like an instructor? It seemed a little odd but...who was she to question him? Though it still puzzled her as to why a student is teaching other students. Once Rurutie and Raven introduced themselves, Yunneth seemed to be dazing out for a moment. Reiko. Why did Raven call herself Reiko just now? It seemed a little strange to her. Was she dazing out? Soon, the raven snapped out of her daze, and cleared her throat.
"My name is Yunneth Sinclaire and I am a second year."
She smiled before setting down the basket of snacks. Yunneth takes out a small chocolate bar and began to tear the wrapper.
"I thought I would bring everyone some snacks in case they haven't eaten in awhile. I hope that is alright Sakamaki-san. Er...do you want me to address you as sensei instead?"
Reiji took down the second name, although he didn't bother disguising his patronizing tone, "Perhaps by the time I need to call on you again, Okazaki-san, you will have decided what your name is."
"Miyazawa Rurutie, third-year student."
Gears turned in his head at the sound of this name. Miyazawa... it seemed somehow familiar, but he decided against pushing the issue. It was neither the time nor the place, anyway.
"My name is Yunneth Sinclaire and I am a second year."
Ugh, what a pain that name was to transcribe to katakana...
The (rather abrasive) sound of a wrapper crinkling hit Reiji's ears, and the dissonance threatened to sour his mood - not that he was in that great of one as it was. He flashed a glare toward the offender, and remarked, "If they are all so disruptive as that one, then refrain. It is none of my concern if you lacked the forethought to eat before you arrived, so in the interest of reducing noise levels, if you must eat, do so quietly, and finish what's in your mouth before you speak."
He cleared his throat again, "In response to your second question, I request that you refer to me as Sakamaki-san, or senpai, if applicable."
The vampire glanced at the lesson packet, but truthfully it was quite sparse on actual details of how to run this expedition. However, Morishige-sensei had apparently included a list of preliminary questions that he wanted asked. Reiji - with all due respect to the instructor - honestly found them rather trite and superfluous, but he forced himself to ask at least the first question (or two, really).
With a sigh, he addressed his class of three, "A formality before we commence: what is it that brought you here tonight? As some of you are not pupils of Morishige-sensei, he has requested that you relay a general overview of your astronomy knowledge. This way, I will know what I do not need to expend time reviewing before tonight's lesson."
Reji shot his gaze toward Raven, and spoke pointedly, "Since you seem to have the most difficulty with memory and recollection, Okazaki-san, perhaps it's in our best interest to have you answer first, lest you forget anything else in the mean time."

@reikookazaki, @eternalprincess, and @yunnethsinclaire YAS SASSY & CLASSY IS BACK, BABY! Also, for reference, I had Reiji transcribe Yunneth's name as シンクレル ユンエット ("Sinkureru Yunnetto")
From Reiji’s remarks at her, Raven gave out a stare and huffed.
“I corrected myself immediately, did I not? I do go by Okazaki Raven, thank you very much.” Admittedly, her response is rather pushy and maybe unnecessary, but already by the first impression, she was getting negative vibes from him.
She glared at Yunneth’s hands that carried a basket filled with snacks to eat during the lesson. Had she acknowledged this beforehand, she might’ve never had her “late night snack” on the way over here. Oh well…
Wow, what is with this male on comment every little action? The wrapper wasn’t really that disruptive to Raven. She raised a brow when she turned her eyes towards Reiji, she knows that Yunneth is only being nice and generous to bring something edible for those who might’ve not eaten before arrival. She soon began to have a gut feeling that this may be a long night, considering how much this student tends to comment on something that may come out annoying to him or whatever.
If there was a sound effect that Raven can make out from her head, a tea kettle whistling would be fitting. What a way for Reiji to put her on the spotlight within seconds as he shot a look at her with those eyes, and that sharp-tongue that likes to probably insult everybody by his own satisfaction. Must he tend to put a remark that she’s rather forgetful when it comes down to anamnesis?
Instead of a snack, some absinthe would be really appreciating to have right now for the vampire. That way she can drink up this whole night and forget this ever happened. (“Definitely, you’re not the reason.”) Raven thought, it was tempting to say it but it’s pointless to start up drama. She made eye contact with Reiji, reluctantly and forced out a smile, along with a chuckle.
“Why thank you, I appreciate you having me to speak up first.” She sneered, “My mind would’ve been wandering off in space right now, had you not said anything.” Once again, she would admit that this is childish of her; to act with such sarcasm. It’s definitely not gonna give off a good image of her if she keeps up with it, so why continue on with it? She knows better and to be mature, act like...a noblewoman. Ugh, stupid title. With that, she cleared her throat,
“Apologies for the delay of an answer. I came here not to be rude or be greedy that I’m earning extra credit, but to learn something new. I am exactly intrigued to know about the celestial objects up in the night sky. Curious to see if there’s by any chance a celestial event that to take view on tonight and if there’s any reason behind it.” Hopefully that’s enough of an answer to get him off her back. It’s an answer that the vampire jumbled out of her mind and rolled with.
494 words| @poisonedtea , @eternalprincess and @yunnethsinclaire | The sarcasm begins.
Rurutie wondered if she was the only one who questioned Raven’s introduction. When she glanced at Yunneth who was supposed to introduce herself next, the human girl seemed to daze out for a moment, but Rurutie did not know why Yunneth was like that. The only male there, however, seemed to try to mock Raven about her name—Rurutie simply sighed when she heard Reiji’s comment and Raven’s defense.
Are those words necessary? Silly guys, I’m not here for a banter about name. Honestly.
The Sakamaki then proceed to snark at Yunneth about her snacks. Admittedly, Rurutie thought the same about eating quietly and finishing what’s in one’s mouth before speaking, but she did not think the sound of chocolate wrapper was that disruptive. The young vampire herself was not fond of noises, she felt a little bit annoyed because the source was fairly close, but the sound the raven-haired human made most likely was nothing compared to other things.
Anyway, she was curious about what’s exactly inside Yunneth’s basket. Was there any of her favorite snacks? She was not that hungry, but if Yunneth has something that the vampire likes, she would be happy to have some—perhaps later after class.
Rurutie still kept herself quiet when Reiji requested that the ones present refer to him as ‘Sakamaki-san’, or maybe ‘senpai’ if it’s applicable. Fine. Just for tonight, the cornflower blue-eyed vampire thought to herself. He was the ‘instructor’ for tonight’s outdoor class, so the dark-haired female would try her best to respect his position at the moment.
The lesson didn’t start until Reiji asked all the girls present about what brought them to the outdoor class that night, saying that Morishige-sensei requested a general overview about their astronomy knowledge. The first one to answer was Raven—Rurutie tried her best not to roll her eyes when Reiji mock the turned vampire about recollecting memories, as well as when Raven sarcastically thanked the man for giving her the first chance.
These two guys, could they stop with the useless remarks, please? Seriously...
As Raven answered Reiji’s question, the young vampire pondered whether if she should give an honest answer or not. Maybe the latter was the best option—there’s no way she could simply say that she was bored at home although it was really tempting to just do that.
Once the turned vampire finished with her reply, Rurutie began to speak, “Is it my turn now, I wonder?” Of course, that was more or less rhetorical. “My reason to be here is more or less the same as Raven—I just wanted to learn something, since my astronomy knowledge is still limited to what I have learned about the study of celestial objects from books and some discussions.” The cornflower blue-eyed vampire glanced for a moment towards the telescope before she resumed, “A practical approach would be good for my own edification, perhaps.”
Speaking about extra credit, Rurutie wondered why no one else but the three girls who were present (plus the only male there) attended the outdoor class activity. Were the others not tempted to earn the extra credit, or were they not that interested in astronomy? The dark-haired vampire wanted not to speculate, but for some reason, she thought it was the latter. If someone isn’t interested in a bonus alongside something, it’s safe to say they’re not interested in that something at all, right?

Well...that was rather odd. Did Raven have a mental mishap? To her there is nothing wrong with that. A slip of the tongue happens to everyone! Unlike the other two, Yunneth thought nothing of it, assuming it to be an honest mistake anyone could make. The moment she was reprimanded for bringing food and tearing a wrapper, Yunneth began to pout. A look of annoyance could be seen on her face but she kept silent. It was not worth arguing over but she did know how to behave! She knew not to talk with food in her mouth. It was only common sense and in actuality, it was not polite. Did she seem so unmannerly to him?
"...He seems like your usual mother hen. I am sure he means well but he is coming off as a nag. He seems almost condescending..."
She thought to herself. For now she is just trying to ignore it. Besides, when or if they are hungry, they will thank her later! Besides, it seemed Raven was going to start something anyway. Well...she hoped not. She did not want an escalation over something so petty. When asked for their reasons of being here, Yunneth quickly pulled her mouth away from the chocolate she was about to eat and gave a big smile and spoke once it was her turn.
"I wanted to learn something new! Plus I really need the extra credit and it was suggested I go with this class to earn it."
She chuckled. She would do her best to learn what she could. Plus learning about thee stars would be interesting and maybe even useful. Why wouldn't she attend?
