TRIVIA - Rurutie is only half-Japanese, and of Welsh, Swedish, and Ainu descent. - She normally uses the most formal pronoun 'watakushi', and tends to end most of her sentences with '-kana' (translated as 'I think', 'I wonder', 'I guess', 'maybe', or 'perhaps'). - She has the tendency to say what's in her mind outright, speak in Shitamachi dialect, using the pronoun 'atashi' as well as dropping her verbal tic when she is really irritated or angry. - She calls almost everyone by their first name, without any honorific. If she does use honorific or affectionate nicknames (at least at times), that means she thinks the person is important/close enough to her, or she is in a very formal situation. - She has the habit of sneaking into the kitchen and secretly mixing some blood into her okonomiyaki batter. - She is able to play piano, harp, koto and quena. - Although she likes singing, Rurutie is rather shy to do it in front of others. - She wears a pair of ribbons and a pair of black thigh high socks most of the time. - She has the tendency to wear nothing underneath her clothes since she feels rather uncomfortable with such stuffs. - Rurutie is somewhat prone to sudden, severe anxiety attack, especially in a big crowds, due to enochlophobia. That's why she tends to avoid crowds. - She likes being in a library so much. At home, she spends most of her time in the library, sometimes even sleeping there using books as pillow. She usually sits near the window, where she could see her mansion's private garden. - She is fluent in English, Welsh, Swedish, and Ainu, as well as proficient in Latin, Finnish, and Greek. - She has at least a dozen of cats at home, named after famous poets. - She often brings a mini notebook with her, which she uses for writing poetry. - She is mixed-handed, primarily but not fully right-handed.
Rurutie was born as the youngest children of an aristocratic family. Being the only daughter out of three children, she was pretty much loved and doted by her family, especially her mother. Even though she was pampered a lot, little Rurutie was a cheerful, curious, intelligent, sweet girl. She was kind to everyone, including her family's servants, and would not hesitate to help others. Her childhood life was happy—very happy in fact—until her mother was mysteriously murdered when Rurutie was 10. Her father married another woman shortly after that, and since then, her life began to change.
At first, her new mother seemed to be a kind-hearted lady, but as time goes by, she showed her true colors—a manipulative, vain and extremely jealous woman. While she would treat Rurutie and her brothers well in front of their father, whenever Rurutie's father is not present, she would be cruel to them. She even treated Rurutie like her personal maid at times, forcing her to do things she didn't like and constantly mocking her. Her step-brother and step-sister were not any better—they liked to pull pranks on Rurutie, which she hated a lot.
One day, Rurutie's step-mother claimed that she didn't want to live in Japan anymore and asked Rurutie's father to move with her to England, where she actually came from. At first he was hesitant, but his wife persuaded him very well, saying that life in England would be much better, so he finally agreed. Unsurprisingly to Rurutie, she didn't want Rurutie and her brothers to follow them. Rurutie's father was shocked and disappointed, but Rurutie said that it's okay, after all they didn't want to leave their beloved home either. After some argument, Rurutie's father gave up. He moved to England with his wife and their children, while Rurutie and her brothers stayed in Japan, with Rurutie enrolled to Ryoutei Academy.
