Aw yes, first one into the room, that means first pick of beds!
Jen knew that she was supposed to get two roommates, though she hadn't bothered to check who they were. Chances were that she wouldn't know them anyway, so all she worried about was getting the key and settling in as soon as possible. She'd brought one large rolling suitcase and a duffel, trying her best not to over-pack (while also knowing she'd likely be buying souvenirs of some kind), and parked them by the bed closest to the window, which she immediately claimed.
Before she began to unpack, she turned over in her mind all that she'd been told about this event: it was apparently a week long, with some sort of fortune ceremony, lots of dancing in the streets, vendors everywhere, and then concluding with bonfires... or something like that. Some cities back Stateside had their own festivals that would take up a good chunk of the streets - usually in a certain district - and the few Jen had gotten to attend, had been a ton of fun. Hopefully, the same would hold true here.
The dhampir then began to unpack, starting with her toiletries; aside from the usual oral hygiene products, face and body washes, and other necessities, she'd made sure to pack her favorite perfume, some makeup and nail polish, and hair products meant for taming her often flyaway mane. For the moment, her back was turned to the door, so that she could enjoy the warm, golden sunlight streaming in while she sorted herself out.
[attr="class","textieno"]This wasn’t exactly his idea of a vacation, but it’s a school trip, and almost everybody at Ryoutei Academy was attending this. Ruki’s brothers wanted to do the same, and at that point, he couldn’t reject their request of going. Upon arrival, the eldest Mukami figured that he wasn’t going to be alone in a room, but instead sharing it with two more people. Chances are of being with his brothers are more than likely slim, since there are others who are attending this school event. It’s not that he minded it, it’s the idea of one of them causing a commotion which would have to result in bringing up a lot of explanation, and an apology, much to his annoyance.[break][break]
He was prepared for the whole week, his suitcase organized, and wanting to know who he’s going to share a room with (hopefully no one that could be a nuisance), along with getting a room key. At the front desk, Ruki asked for the names of the people he’s sharing a room with and...one name caught his attention, quick.[break][break]
Unbelievable. Much to his shock, what of the chances that for a whole week, he’s going to share the same hotel room with her? Never mind about the Liang Bai girl that he has no knowledge of, he’s assigned a room with Jendayi Bayassi. That girl, the dhampir, the one he ended up sleeping with that one night. It’s been awhile since he had last spoken with her ever since that happened, and there’s no doubt she probably hasn’t forgotten about it, either. It’s probably even too late for him to ask for a different room now, since the others are more than likely full. It’d be a lie if he made a reason to say that him and Jen have rather negative relations with each other. Damn it, a whole week though![break][break]
Once given the room key, Ruki continued on to make his way to his destination. As doubtful as he is, he did have a small bit of hope of being the first to arrive in the room. That way, he can place his stuff on whichever bed, and evacuate to where he can get a clear head. He wasn’t afraid of seeing Jen, honestly he’s unsure of what to say to her if she’s already in the room.[break][break]
Making it to the door, Ruki takes in a deep breath, using the key to the doorknob and walks in with his luggage. He should’ve stuck to the idea that he wasn’t going to be the first, because already he can recognize the rather curvaceous physique of Jen, who already made claims to which bed she’s going to sleep on. Good enough, he can claim another bed while at it. There’s no way he’s planning to sleep in the same bed as her for a whole week. As for the other roommate, that’s her decision of whether to share a bed with them (preferably Jen), or sleep on the floor if she’s that nervous about sleeping in the same bed as someone she probably doesn’t know.

Halfway through unpacking, Jen heard the click of the hotel key being swiped, followed by the door opening behind her. She sat up, and glanced behind her, but before she fully went back to her task at hand, something struck her as oddly familiar about that dark silhouette. She paused, then turned around slowly - this time, rotating in the other direction, as she'd heard the footsteps move - and it turned out that her intuition was right: out of the corner of her eye, then more clearly in view, she saw that this particular roommate was a certain Mukami Ruki.
A half-smirk crept up on her lips, and she watched him for a moment before her voice opened with a purr, "Well hello stranger~ seems like a while since I last saw you with your clothes on~"
She turned back around, and continued to rummage through her things, laying them out as she went, "Gotta be honest, I wasn't sure if you'd even come along on this sort of venture, much less that we'd be roomed together... but c'est la vie," she spoke this last phrase with a soft sigh, "I'll be honest though, I'm not totally sure what to expect out of this. Do you?"
Jen gathered up her toiletry items, and carried them into the bathroom, setting them all up in one corner, save for her shower necessities (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and a razor just in case). If the other roommate was a girl, she imagined they might be competing with each other for bathroom time and space more than they would with Ruki.
The dhampir leaned out of the bathroom, and called out, "Hey, you might wanna claim space on the counter ASAP, if our other roommate is a girl you might have trouble finding a spot if you wait. Also, when do you prefer to shower so we can coordinate timing? I need a while in there and I'd rather not hold anyone else up just because my hair is being a pain in the ass."
She wasn't sure about him, but for Jen, continuing to be so casual with someone she'd slept with was like second nature. She figured she was too old to get hung up on who she'd seen naked (or vice versa), though it would be nice if she could remember a little more of what she saw that night. No use dwelling on it too much though - if she got to see it all again, so be it; if not, there were certainly other fish in the sea, so to speak.
[attr="class","textieno"]"Well hello stranger~ seems like a while since I last saw you with your clothes on~"[break][break]
The idea of being a complete stranger to Jen doesn’t sound half as bad of an idea at all to Ruki. Admittedly, having that sort of relations almost sounds better than being acquainted. In a way, this is almost back to square one, again for one to see how the vampire’s been viewing this.[break][break]
“I rather prefer not to speak of anything that happened before.” Was the first thing that came out of the vampire’s mouth. It’s not that he’s ashamed of it or anything like that, then again, he’s unsure if he is or not. The bigger reason though, is that he doesn’t want a reminder of it.[break][break]
Ugh, she says that phrase just like his brother, Kou. Because of how many times his younger brother tends to speak some French towards Ruki, he has learned a few phrases, here and there. Albeit, it’s both annoying and yet, also engaging. That way, the vampire gets to the learn another language on the way, aside from being efficient with English and Japanese. He still has trouble every now and then when Kou speaks full-on French, at times. In conclusion, that idol’s lucky the eldest Mukami has difficulty understanding what he says, and Kou’s probably poking fun at him while speaking the language.[break][break]
“To be frank, I didn’t choose to come over here, my brothers just so happen on wanting to be a part of this event. In case of any sort of behavior and incidents happening because of them, I am here to be sure none of that nonsense does occur.” He explained his reasoning.[break][break]
“No.” He shook his head as he set down his suitcase on the bed. It’s true he doesn’t know what to expect either, but honestly, he does expect that the relationship towards him and Jen doesn’t go down, any further.[break][break]
The dhampir’s right about that, not that he really cares but seeing how much products Kou puts on the bathroom counter, who knows how that Liang girl is going to be like, too. He figured Jen would be one to take up a lot of the counter space with her stuff, and it could be a hassle if the other roommate is the same way. The vampire decided to wait on taking care of that once the dhampir finishes placing all of her things.[break][break]
When asked about the timing for shower, Ruki answered in a calm voice, “I tend to shower as soon as I wake up. Knowing myself, I am usually one who gets up early.” It’s best that he showers before either of his roommates; he can get ready first and possibly leave the room before either of the girls wake up. Though, he doesn’t wake up as early as a certain brother of his does.
“I rather prefer not to speak of anything that happened before.”
Jen raised an eyebrow, "Not much for kiss-and-tell, huh? Not my philosophy, but I'll respect it."
Normally the dhampir loved to talk about her encounters, if they were particularly memorable; but she didn't recall too terribly much of theirs. Probably if she were exposed to some sensory triggers - scent, taste, touch - she might remember more that way, but telling by what seemed to border on bristling from Ruki, she couldn't be sure she'd get those privileges.
She listened as he explained why he was here - not to enjoy the festivities himself, but more to keep his brothers out of trouble, apparently, "So there's nothing you're looking forward to seeing or doing here? You mostly gonna chill out here in the room or something?"
Jen knew of some people who liked vacations not for the sake of doing anything, but almost more for the sake of not doing anything, to be able to just get away from responsibility for a while... but why do that during a festival, of all times? Surely there was something out there that he might find worthwhile? Hell, if Ruki didn't seem so standoffish at the moment, she might have considered asking him to join her one day to see what festivities were in order. Like she'd stated before, he was decent company as long as he was in the mood to talk.
"An early riser, huh?" The dhampir let out a chuckle, "Normally that'd be me too, but I have a feeling I'll be sleeping in at least a couple of days, depending on how much I party during the night. Don't worry though, I usually know how to make a pretty quiet entrance when other people are snoozing~"
Jen stepped out of the bathroom, and returned to her luggage, "Anyway, I'll let you claim your space in there, and I might take a quick shower to freshen up before I go exploring. I wanna know what I'm dealing with so I'm less likely to get lost later."
She settled back down on the bed, and started laying out her pajamas (since she probably wouldn't be able to sleep in her preferred garments, or lack thereof), then let her impulse get the better of her, "...you're welcome to join me on that expedition if you'd like, by the way, but it's no skin off my back if you don't want to."
[attr="class","textieno"]"Not much for kiss-and-tell, huh? Not my philosophy, but I'll respect it."[break][break]
Good enough, but whatever. Ruki let that subject go like he wanted to, anyway. It is a shame that he couldn’t exactly remember all that happened that night, but he supposed that it’s better to forget than to let that memory play in his head, constantly.[break][break]
One would think someone like Ruki is not at all the kind of person who’s into festivals and sorts. Reality, the rather dull Mukami can be somewhat into them, if he wants to be though. This is mostly what his brothers want to do, however. Sure, he knows Kou can be independent on his own, but then there’s Azusa. His youngest brother can honestly do the same but of course, even he can get into some sorts of trouble, at times. With just those two, together and the possibility of separation, along with roommates that they can get into some ridiculous shenanigans? Best to play it safe and make sure neither of them get into trouble.[break][break]
“It’s possible that may be the conclusion. However, I do not plan to spend all week in one room. I’m sure that I’ll find places that I can take interest on, or if my brothers want to me to attend somewhere with them.” By his brothers, more than likely Azusa if he so chooses Ruki to come along.[break][break]
Like he cares what she’s going to be doing, all night. As long as there’s no interference, it’s whatever.[break][break]
Ruki unzipped his luggage, taking out all the necessities he needed and goes to the bathroom, without making a single glance at Jen. There wasn’t a lot of items he has in his hands so whatever space there is on the bathroom counter, he’ll take that. He’s not like Kou with multiple products for each, and almost every part of his body.[break][break]
Once that was taken care of, the vampire walked out of the bathroom, and back to the bed with luggage on it. He heard Jen welcoming him to join on in with her about walking around the area. Still deciding on not taking a look at her, Ruki zipped up his luggage, “I believe you already know what my answer’s going to be. But if I have to be clear of it, I will.” He sighed, “No.”
"Oh, good~" she said in response to his suggestion that he may not decide to be a total hermit all week, "it'd be a shame if you missed out an all of the fun, even if low-key is more your speed. I'm sure you'll find something you enjoy out there, hopefully your brothers will have a good time, too."
Jen sat up a little when she heard him decline her request; it wasn't so much that he declined (this, she wasn't surprised by, exactly) but the way he did it seemed oddly short. She put her hands up in a gesture of nonaggression, "Hey man, I'm just saying that the invitation is there. I went in without expectations either way."
Why, again, did she bother to ask? Did she really want Ruki's presence that much? It's not like she cares if he accompanies her or not... but it would have been nice to get back on the right foot (even if she still wasn't sure why he was suddenly so much more distant).
Since she hadn't really done anything in these clothes (i.e. they were still relatively clean), Jen only went back into the bathroom with a fresh pair of panties in hand. She turned the water on and fiddled with the temperature until she got it where she wanted it. Initially, she reached to strip herself, the door still open (figuring, of course, that Ruki had already seen most of her by now)... but at the last second, she balanced on one foot so she could close it with the other.
Probably would be best to give him space. Dunno what he's so on edge about, but I guess I'll have to leave him alone for a while.
[attr="class","textieno"]“I suppose.” Ruki failed to understand how it’d be a misfortune of not being able to gaze upon everything these festivals are going to give off. Then again, he’s not one who usually finds festivities as a big deal. Admittedly, he does appreciate the fact that his brothers do manage to find the time to enjoy it; It’s rather appealing to see them in an ecstatic mood. Even if it’s something trivial, it can be worthwhile for his brothers to be on a positive note.[break][break]
In some rather reasonable way, it did seem tempting to join along with Jen to explore the town they’re now in and while doing so, have a small conversation. The temptation however, is not strong enough to have Ruki accept the invitation. “Why bother asking if you have those kind of expectations, then? Since you know me well enough to know that I would say no, it would've been wise if you just didn’t offer your request.”[break][break]
Good, she’s going to shower. Meaning, he can have some elbow room and get a clearer head, for the time being. He already felt the awkward tension, and it grew extremely discomforting. Why, of all the other classmates that are attending this event, did they choose to place him in the same room as her? He knew he shouldn’t mind it all that much, considering how much they’ve gotten to acknowledge each other as time passes by. On the other hand, it didn’t feel right to be in the same room, and now for a week. He could attempt to avoid her, the real question would be how, though. He could also have his brothers distract him, but then again there’s Kou. Knowing Kou, and that magic eye of his, he will immediately sense the suspicion. As for Azusa, knowing that there are times where he can be problematic and will do anything in order to get Ruki to punish him, he'd try doing something that probably involves Kou joining along.[break][break]
As it stands, he’s running out of options. Luckily for Ruki, he does have his book that he always keeps close to him, at all costs. He can just read that throughout the time, and give out the signal that he wishes not to be disturbed. Unless Jen’s going to be the one who’s nosy and asks questions. He can dismiss her on that, besides he’s sure that he’s not all that important to her.
"Why bother asking if you have those kind of expectations, then? Since you know me well enough to know that I would say no, it would've been wise if you just didn’t offer your request.”
Jen thought on this as she passed by him, on her way. She considered pausing in her path as she did so, but she decided against that, "Well... because I don't know that you would say no. You've surprised me before, on account of things like this."
Like deigning to meet up with her in the old town on a moment's notice, or accepting her invitation to the bar that one night. The temptation to add these points was strong, but the dhampir decided against it. She knew him marginally well, she supposed - perhaps more than most would, or would even care to know - but it wasn't to the extent that she could predict his reactions to things.
While the bathroom filled with steam, Jen stripped her clothes off, and got into the shower. From under the hot cascade, her mind spun like a barrel; wondering what all there would be to do here, whether or not she should grab food, what the temperature outside would be like, and what on earth was eating him up? Again, she didn't really intend to push the topic too hard, but she really didn't want them to have tension between them the whole week if she could avoid it. It would kind of suck if both of them walked away from the trip miserable because they couldn't resolve their differences (whatever they were; she still wasn't clear on this).
Once she'd sufficiently freshened up, she dried off, re-dressed, and did just enough to be presentable: a little light hair moisturizer, brushed teeth, deodorant, and her favorite citrus perfume. It was starting to get low, so she made a mental note to try and track it down when she was back in the city. Hopefully it wouldn't be too terribly expensive over here.
Before she left, with her wallet and hotel key secured on her person, she paused for just a moment to look back at Ruki, already settled in on the other bed in the room, engrossed in his book. She'd seen him once before with it, the same well-worn tome he'd been carrying at school, but it bore no title, no special markings otherwise... what was it? There must be some significance it holds for the vampire, but she still didn't feel right asking.
"Well..." Jen nearly found herself at a loss for words, but she managed to scrounge a few together, ones that she hoped would still come out as an extension of the proverbial olive branch, "if you do want someone to go with you somewhere, you can always ask me. You have my number."
Although she didn't intend to spend much time in the room as it was, it would be nice if the times she was there, could be dispelled of the awkwardness. She didn't exactly expect a response from him at this moment, to be honest, so she didn't bother to linger once she'd finished her statement.
This was gearing up to be a long week at this rate.
[attr="class","textieno"]“Well, now you know.” He dismissed her. Surprises or not, she should still know in Ruki’s point of view. Admittedly, it is rather rare for him to accept anyone’s invitation, unless it is extremely important. Meaning, it involves business that is needed to be taken care of. So yes, he’s aware of Jen’s unexpectation of when he accepted her requests back then. However, today is not the day where he’s going to accept it, again.[break][break]
He started to read from this special book, once more. Something that he has always done so often, it’s nothing really new or special in anyone’s eyes. Usually, when he does read, he expects no one to distract him at all. Unlike a certain person who kept on doing so the first time she was forced to spend her days at the Mukami manor.[break][break]
Even when Jen finished showering and got herself ready to head on out of the room, Ruki didn’t pay much mind into her, at the moment. He wants his time alone and that’s about it. Hopefully, whenever that Liang girl shows up, she’ll do the same. Considering how many people have viewed him intimidating, he’s sure that she’s one who won’t interfere with his spare time.[break][break]
“I have my brothers for that. You won’t be that much of an importance.” He responded quickly before she left the premises. After that, he said no more and continued to read. The chances of this week feeling like a month is extremely high and if reading this book won’t kill the time, other places will have to do and possibly being around his brothers, as well. Hopefully.
