Punctual, as always.
Reiji had made a point to inquire at the front desk, as to which room he'd been assigned, and who the other person was that he was paired with. Where most of the others were in groups of three, he only one roommate to contend with. Hmm... what's this? Interesting, they'd put him in the same room with the Okazaki girl. By what strange twist of fate was it that he kept crossing paths with her? Surely, this could be explained by more than just the fact of them attending the same school? And wasn't it rather... scandalous to pair opposite sexed students up in the same hotel room?
The second Sakamaki son refrained from shaking his head as he received his key; in the back of his mind, he could only imagine that under such circumstances, it wasn't out of the question that someone may end up with a rather inconvenient "souvenir" in ten months' time.
On first glance, these rooms weren't exactly unpleasant, for being three-star quality. That said, Reiji wasn't about to take it at face value; he set his belongings down next to the bed nearest the interior, and dug through his bag for the singular white glove that he would sometimes sport. He almost always traveled with it so that he could ensure cleanliness wherever he stayed (and if it wasn't up to his standards, he never hesitated to call housekeeping, even if this incurred extra charges). His first order of business was to inspect the bedding, checking for any sign of stains or unwelcome scents.
Yes! A whole week being out of the house, Raven just felt so ecstatic and she has to make it last while she still can. Of course she’s going to attend this school event, it’s more than likely going to be a fun time, she might even see a few friends of hers over here, and even make new ones while at it.
She rushed to the front desk for her room key, and found out that she’s going to be the one sharing a room with only one student. Whoever it is, she’s more than likely going to get along with them pretty well. She didn’t bother asking who this person was because of that huge chance, and also due to the excitement in her. Given the room key, Raven immediately gave her thanks and made a run for it to the hotel, dragging her bag behind her. Anyone can see the sheer amount of joy on her face, there’s no way of hiding it. The vampire was so giddy, she could be bouncing off walls if she wanted to.
A whole week of fun, excitement, games, parties, and making new friends. What could possibly go wrong with that? Seriously though, what would it take for this week to be a complete drag for Raven? Nothing came to mind, unless nobody was serving cheesecake over here. That could be rather heartbreaking but let’s be real, it’s more than likely that this area has cheesecake, and the vampire’s more than likely going to find it as soon as possible. It’s a requirement in her case.
Making it to her room, a tiny squeal of anticipation sounded in the back of the vampire’s throat. It’s almost impossible to kill her exhilaration. Almost.
“Oh, this is going to be great, this is going to be good, amazing, phenomenal.” Raven could almost list out any word to describe the positivity of this event as she walked in her room. Closing the door behind her, and still listing some words, the vampire turned around rushing in with happiness until suddenly, “It’s going to be--OH COME ON!” She didn’t hesitate to just toss her bag on the bed once her hazel eyes caught the roommate she’s going to share this room with. Of all people, all the students of Ryoutei Academy, she has to spend an entire week of being in the same hotel room with Reiji Sakamaki. Which deity did she anger so badly, that she’s getting this sort of punishment?! What heinous crime did she commit to deserve this?!
Back to the question of what could possibly go wrong, what would it take to make this week be a total drag? Spending an entire week with a pompous ass, that’s what.
Raven’s excitement immensely decreased within seconds, and all because of this person happening to be in her presence. Sad part, since all the other rooms are full with three students each in a room, it’s more than likely that she’s unable to move to another and probably she’s not going to be able to switch if all the students are finding their rooms and roommates satisfactory.
“Why is that when I want to do something exciting, you just happen to be my personal roadblock?!” Raven raised a brow, crossing her arms as she stared at her sententious roommate. Sharing a room...with Reiji?! She’s been a good person, what did she do wrong?
if I grasp you just once you can no longer run away
Just as Reiji was finishing with the inspection of his bedding, he heard the shrill yelp of a certain third year; surely, she shouldn't be that surprised that her roommate arrived before she did?
Upon further listening, it appeared that the Okazaki girl was none too happy to see specifically him in the room with her. Did she not check the roster?
He stood up straight, and turned to address her, head tilted up ever so slightly, "I assure you, Okazaki-san, I am no more or less pleased with this arrangement than you are. I certainly did not request it, so I am absolved of blame. Judging by your reaction, you did not request it either, so I believe it is fair to assume that we were placed together at random."
He wasn't entirely sure that it was completely random, but as he had no hard evidence to contradict this, he accepted the hypothesis of blind selection.
The second Sakamaki simply re-made the bed, and maneuvered around it, slipping past Raven as he did so, "I don't believe that you have much to worry about in any case, the only times we will likely see each other are in the mornings and at night. I, for one, have no intentions of following you about the festival premises either, so consider your worries unfounded."
Reiji then made his way to the bathroom, pausing in the doorway to finish his thought, "Now if you'll excuse me, I must ensure that I can enjoy a sanitary space when I need to use the lavatory."
Randomized?! Like that certainly had made this any better for her. Who? No, in fact, which deity’s cup did she piss in to give her this sort of luck of having to be set up with him? What signs has she missed? Fine, whatever. Raven cannot let Reiji ruin her week just like this, “That’s fine, I’m sure that this was all by ransom and it just so happens, I ended up getting the short end of the stick.”
She gazed at the two beds and honestly, she couldn’t be more than thankful for that. “As long as you stay on your territory, I have mine.” It’s as simple as that, no sense of shenanigans or any of that...sort. The vampire took a small step aside as Reiji passes by her, he even assures her that the chances of them seeing each other all the time (aside from being in the room) are slim. That’s beneficial, right? It’d be rather terrifying to have him stalking her by any chance. Ugh, just imagining that made her slightly cringe.
“Very well, then. As long as you have your own duties. I didn’t plan to have you around me.” She crossed her arms, still rather irritated she’s going to share a room with him. Though it did come to her curious mind.
“Wait a minute, then what are your plans…” Furrowing her brows, she asks as she nearly follows him to the bathroom, “...in the meantime? Surely, you came here with reason.” She couldn’t exact picture him as the type to go to festivals, but there’s always surprises. Like being in a room with him for an example.
“You evermore seem like that kind who has reasons on attending something. I’m guessing it was important.” There was a choice of coming here, right? She knew to chose to come here to have a pleasant time, despite it having a bad start of a vacation.
if I grasp you just once you can no longer run away
She got the short end of the stick? Reiji wasn't sure if he should be offended by that or not, but he certainly wasn't about to let it go unanswered, "Rest assured, you could have ended up with far worse companions for the duration of this little getaway. At least you will not find me causing an ungodly commotion at all hours, obscene or otherwise... nor will I be bringing strange women in as if the entrance to the room was a revolving door."
Notably, he spoke of these in direct reference to Ayato, Subaru, and Laito, although he'd heard stories about certain Mukamis, or at least one of them in particular, known for living a somewhat more flamboyant lifestyle than the rest.
"Hm?" He paused when she asked him about his plans, why he was here, "If you are so curious, I was understandably concerned that I may have to keep an eye on my younger brothers," (or bail them out of jail, he thought to himself), "but also because I welcomed the opportunity to be away from my elder brother. For once, his unending laziness was a boon to me, and I will be able to freely enjoy a week out in the countryside."
"This being said," he continued as he began to take a cursory scan of the bathrom area, "I anticipate that I will attend the lantern festival and perhaps the bonfire, but aside from that, I don't plan to be in the thick of the pandemonium very often. In fact, I may even opt for a bit more stargazing, since we are rather removed from major cities and thus, away from the scourge of light pollution."
Damn, he’s right about that. It already would seem out of character of him if he were to ever bring some random woman to…
Woman, what the hell are you thinking?
A small tinge of pink appeared on Raven’s cheeks as the thought crosses her mind. Shaking her head, she came to agree with him, “It could’ve been worse, I’ll admit. For example, having someone so lackadaisical or a debauchee.” Even that nearly made her cringe, “Or...one who’s a combination of both idleness and perverse.”
Undoubtedly, she acknowledged that there are people out there who are like that. The kind of people she tends to avoid at all costs. How can one be that way? It’s so revolting. Can they seriously act in such behavior, daily? Despite the vampire’s curiosity, they’re answers she honestly does not plan or want to know about. Whether it is true or false.
Brothers? He makes it sound like he practically has a full house and there’s many of them, “As in, how many brothers are you talking here? They can’t be that much of a hassle now, can they?” Perhaps, asking that question wasn’t such a good idea. Raven doesn’t know Reiji very well for the most part, nor does she know his brothers (at least, she believes she doesn’t know them).
“Your elder brother’s lazy?” Ouch, she nearly felt some sympathy for him. “I believe I am coming to the assumption that this trip is meant to be a time to take a breather for you, then?” the vampire raised a brow at him. Best to not cause a commotion between each other, if that is the case.
“I see.” Well, at least he’s going to attend the festivals for the week. It’s not that she really cares and all, more like it’s good that he’s not going to be a couch-potato or anything in comparison to that, all week. Once again, not that she really cares. Though stargazing, “You must be really fascinated by the celestial bodies up in the heavens, are you?” Thinking about that extra credit event back then, it only makes sense. “Are you planning to go out there alone, by any chance?”

“It could’ve been worse, I’ll admit. For example, having someone so lackadaisical or a debauchee. Or.... one who’s a combination of both idleness and perverse.”
In the midst of examining the shower area (where he knew he would be frequently, so it was only logical that it should be checked for cleanliness), he heard her regale this particular lament, and paused again, "Frau Okazaki, I do believe that you've described my eldest brother with uncanny accuracy."
He cleared his throat, and took note of the grout between the tiles to make sure they'd been properly scrubbed, "As a matter of fact, I have five brothers. Only one is full blood relation - much to my chagrin - and he is the leech who opted once more to idle about on the couch instead of participating in society. Then there are the triplets, and then the youngest, all of whom I am related to through our father. Only Kanato - the middle triplet - does not cause me headaches on a regular basis."
Between Ayato's mischief, Laito's perverse escapades, Subaru's destructive temper, and Shuu's... everything... somehow Kanato's occasional temper flares between long periods of self-isolation, seemed tolerable by comparison.
"Therefore, to answer your question, yes, I am here to enjoy a reprieve from his antics... or lack thereof, I should say."
...suddenly she was interested in his hobby? He wasn't quite sure what to make of this, but he decided to humor her since they were already conversing (in a way, he didn't mind talking with someone who wasn't Yui for once), "Frankly, I don't comprehend how someone would find our galaxy anything short of compelling. If I do say so myself, it is the majesty of nature at its most spectacular, and even its irregularities - supernovae, multi-star systems, potential life-bearing planets - still seem to fit perfectly in the schema."
Finding no particular reason why he wouldn't go alone, this additional inquiry seemed odd to the second Sakamaki, "I see no reason why I would need to be accompanied for such a thing, so yes, I do plan to go out there by myself."
Raven grew unsure how to feel about that. The thought of Reiji’s eldest brother being that way sounds sickening, she couldn’t help but cringe. “That’s tragic, remind me to never meet your brother.” Unless she has met him and she’s unaware of it. The vampire doesn’t believe so as she believes that she’s never met anyone like that, recently. Either way, it’s a red flag if she were to meet said person.
“Holy shit.” She said, unconsciously. Five brothers?! Sounds like Hell in a handbasket, and if this Kanato person is the only one that’s tolerable, wherever they live must be a wreck with all of them having an atrocious behavior. Raven did catch on to the idea that all of them (except the eldest) are related by only the father. What of the mothers? What became of them? Did there happen to be a divorce by all of them? Did they end up missing? Are they dead?
Goodness, he really does make it seem like his family’s full of rowdy people, “I suppose since you did mention before that your father is a busy politician, he’s not around that much to take charge of the household, is he?”
That’s certainly one way to describe its fascination. “Of course. Didn’t really think about that before, but all in all, that’s a pretty fair way of putting it. Well hopefully, you’ll discover something marvelous tonight.”
“Hey, whatever floats your boat.” She’s not going to be the one begging to join along. Besides, it’s not like they’ll do much together throughout this week. Also, it’s more than likely Jen’s probably at this trip too and unpacking whatever she needs. Chances are, Raven’s going to stick with her friends and leave Reiji alone, unless something happens and that’ll be much to her surprise. “You already seem like the independent type and that in my eyes, is appreciable. I won’t be the one, interfering.”
if I grasp you just once you can no longer run away
If nothing else, the Okazaki girl was promising in that she, too, may share in Reiji's disgust toward Shuu's laziness (and ungratefulness). This alone wasn't exactly enough to win over his favor, but it could end up tipping the scales if it turns out they can somewhat get along for the remainder of this trip. Though, the extent to which she was asking questions could potentially grate on his nerves... oh well, nothing was stopping him from humoring her for the moment.
"If that is a person you truly wish to avoid," Reiji began, "then my strongest suggestion is to avoid the school's music room at all costs. It is not, by any means, the only place on Ryoutei's premises where he wallows in his wretchedness, but if you see a blond, blue-eyed male with a music player on his neck, detour immediately."
“I suppose since you did mention before that your father is a busy politician, he’s not around that much to take charge of the household, is he?”
The second Sakamaki couldn't help but chuckle - albeit in a rather deprecating way - but he kept his answer short, "We often go months or years without seeing his face."
To be complimented on his independence - or even, to be complimented at all - was rather a rarity for Reiji; though, rather than stumbling over his lack of ability to take such praise, he simply replied, "Naturally. To be reliant on the company of others for fulfillment... it is a state that I cannot say I empathize with."
To hear that she didn't wish to interfere, gave him the sense that she was of a similar temperament; if not for that, he did recall that she'd been unaccompanied at the ball. However, he wasn't particularly comfortable verbally returning the sentiment - as bad as he was at receiving positive reinforcement, he was likely even worse at giving it.
Reiji stepped back out of the shower, vaguely satisfied with the standard of cleanliness... for now. He was fairly certain it would not stay as such even under his watch, but there was nothing he could do at this moment. Given that his preliminary check had come up without glaring issues, he returned to his bedside and finally began to unpack, "I'm finished in the washroom for now. If you have business in there, it is available."
The music room? Quite a specific room in the school to avoid, to the vampire. Luckily for her, she doesn’t have any classes that take involvement over there. Better chances of never meeting the eldest Sakamaki. It still surprises her that Reiji isn’t the one who’s head of the household. For someone who probably takes charge of many things, you’d think he would be the oldest sibling, but that apparently is not the case.
“I’ll take your advice, though it’s such a shame,” she raised her brows for a second, “Almost pitiful. Almost.” she emphasized the last word, expressing the fact that she’s not one who tolerates ones who rather live their lives acting so indolent.
Blonde hair and blue eyes? Raven couldn’t help but make a puzzled look on her face. She did clearly hear that Reiji and his brother are blood-related by both parents and yet, that description. The parents must have a various set of genetics going on.
The vampire decided to sit down on the bathroom counter, slouch and place her elbows on her knees, “Now had you not gave me that kind of information and if I had ever saw him, I would’ve immediately jump to the assumption that you two weren’t related, and that one of you was adopted.” it somewhat amazed her that one of them wasn’t.
Taken aback, Raven stared at Reiji in disbelief. Months? Years? Does this politician seriously not put any time to be with his sons? Is work more important than family to him? What ever happened to family comes first? By instinct, she commented, “What an ass.” only to shut her mouth in an instant. Way to go, imbecile. Insult the dude’s father when you don’t even know the guy. She thought.
She didn’t know how long this conversation’s going to go on for, and her thoughts suddenly went to the idea of maybe having a cigarette while keeping up with him. It didn’t at all sound so bad, but she remembered that this is probably a “No Smoking” area. Fantastic.
“Yeah, I gotcha. Since we’re being honest here, I don’t seek out for help unless it is indeed needed.” she turns her face towards the bathroom mirror, gazing at her reflection, “I’m more about independence. Then again, I like to be the helping hand.” "I'm finished in the washroom for now. If you have business in there, it is available."
That’s it? Once again, the puzzled look came back on Raven’s face, “Did you seriously just went to the shower to check if it’s clean? I’m sure the housekeepers tend to keep the rooms tidy before new guests arrive sooo...was that really needed?”
if I grasp you just once you can no longer run away
Well at least someone was willing to listen to him for once. Reiji couldn't count the number of times he'd advised Yui, or one of this brothers, against engaging in ill-planned shenanigans, only to see them blow up in their faces and leave him to clean up the mess.
"I don't pity him in the least," his response to Reiko's remark was perhaps a bit sharper than one might normally expect, "he chose to waste his potential."
Ah, yes, he was used to this observation from others (the few that did bother to talk to him instead of cowering under his gaze): that he and his brothers largely looked nothing alike. The two redheads - Ayato and Laito - looked somewhat similar to one another, but with the rest? Hardly.
There was a part of him that, too, was rather bitter that it had been Shuu that took after their mother, Beatrix, in appearance.
"Well, now you know," he couldn't bring himself to elaborate on that - it would only result in his irritation and he was trying to avoid it this week.
"What an ass."
Reiji took pause at this, and at first he contemplated correcting her for speaking ill of his father, but he couldn't necessarily find fault in that assessment. However, not being content to leave it unanswered, he replied, "Although he may not be the best father figure, I would still advise that you watch your words."
Independent, but also willing to help? Hm... we'll see about that. Even though both of these traits were highly favorable in Reiji's eyes, he put little stock in words; if she was attempting to curry his favor with disingenuous masquerading, it would show in her actions. If it turned out to be true, though... well, it's unlikely, but he supposed he'd deal with it when circumstances called for it.
“Did you seriously just went to the shower to check if it’s clean? I’m sure the housekeepers tend to keep the rooms tidy before new guests arrive sooo...was that really needed?”
The vampire resisted the urge to let out a sigh, "Yes, I did. Be that as it may, there will almost always be employees who do but the bare minimum. Cutting corners so they don't have to work as hard, doing just enough to get by; I do not wish to be a victim of such negligence."
Those words, harsh albeit. Raven even had to hold her tongue, since she’s not one to exactly talk about potential. It costed her a price of a lifetime, no, longer than that.
“Right, it’s fairly disappointing.” there was a small tone of guilt in the vampire’s voice when she muttered; Many including her, had reasons on 'wasting' their so-called potential. Unless, the eldest Sakamaki rebelled for the wrong reasons, Raven grew unsure whether or not to mock him for the decision. C'est la vie, they say.
It became obvious that this is not a subject that Reiji doesn't want to have any further conversations of. Understanding, yet curious at the same time, Raven chose not to instigate for his sake. Whatever it was that bothers him most, aside from his brother, the female vampire now knows; it's personal.
"Apologies, that's a mistake on my part." she pinched the bridge of her nose, "It's a habit for me to comment about something negative, at least in my belief." better apologizing, than never doing so, correct? Admittedly, it was stupid of her to badmouth, but at least it's agreeable that his father's not a good example of being a parent. On the other hand, Raven felt her face heating up.
Staring at Reiji, Raven resisted the urge not to roll her eyes; what else is he going to check, the hotel's food quality?
"Whatever," she shook her head, "Honestly, I don't need the restroom for now." what sounds desirable is to get out of the room. Luckily for her, that moment had come when her phone sounded in the room. Rushing out of the restroom, she flopped herself onto the bed, grabs her bag and digs for her phone. Taking the device out, Raven checked the caller ID and an excited grin formed on her face.
“Well, I don’t know about you, but I have plans right now and they are waiting for me.”
